> The Story of Pearl Girl Recap

Yan Zijing was recuperating at Duan Wu’s Mingjing Pavilion. He was deeply saddened by the loss of several brothers during their recent breakout. To honor their sacrifice, he held a private memorial. Kang Ju encouraged him not to be too hard on himself, reminding him that their deaths were caused by the Li Long bandits. Kang Ju advised him to look forward, as time would heal many wounds.

Duan Wu took great care of Yan Zijing, diligently preparing medicine and personally cooking meals for him. One day, she made egg noodle soup. Watching Duan Wu busy in the kitchen, Yan Zijing felt touched. Besides Kang Ju, no woman had ever treated him with such warmth. Exhausted from constantly strategizing against the Li Long bandits, he cherished these rare peaceful moments. Yet, his frequent poison flare-ups reminded him that his time might be running out.

When the fragrant soup was served, Yan Zijing quickly devoured it. Duan Wu then suggested that if Yan Zijing were to disappear from Hangzhou, it might disrupt the Li Long bandits' operations. Now that she knew the truth, she expressed her willingness to become his ally. Zheng Zhiheng’s failure to kill Yan Zijing greatly disappointed Cui Shijiu. Her usual gentle demeanor vanished, leaving Zheng Zhiheng to see her true colors—she had been using him all along.

Disillusioned, Zheng Zhiheng became increasingly resentful. Meanwhile, Bai Niao brought her younger brother to meet Zheng Zhiheng, hoping he would help them reclaim their previous glory as renowned courtesans. However, Zheng Zhiheng dismissed them coldly and walked away. A group of courtesans later came to Mingjing Pavilion to withdraw their shares, as the repayment deadline had passed and the shop had no cash reserves. Duan Wu wrote promissory notes for each of them, promising monthly interest payments.

Seeing Duan Wu’s dire situation, they reluctantly accepted the notes. Just as they were leaving, Ying Tao and Gao Shou returned with several crates of raw gemstone materials. Overjoyed, they announced to Duan Wu that they now had plenty of resources for new products. Duan Wu’s close friend, Feng Wuniang, learned of her struggles and generously refused any repayment. Instead, she sent a letter filled with encouragement, urging Duan Wu to persevere and to seek her help if needed.

The courtesans who had received the promissory notes regretted their earlier actions. However, having acted so harshly and opportunistically before, they now lacked the face to go back on their demands. Duan Wu explained that business was inherently risky, with no guarantees of success, and declined to accept new investments. Determined to master the art of colored glassmaking, Duan Wu tasked Ying Tao and Gao Shou with finding the old craftsman who had previously worked for the Zheng family.

After they located him, Duan Wu personally visited and offered a large sum of money for his secret recipe. Initially, the drunken craftsman dismissed her capabilities. It wasn’t until she placed real gold before him that he began to take her seriously. Cui Shijiu orchestrated a smear campaign against Zhenlang Pavilion, accusing it of selling counterfeit goods. Crowds gathered on the streets, gossiping and watching as the pavilion’s hard-earned reputation crumbled.

Zheng Zhiheng and Cui Shijiu then sought Xu Nanying’s assistance. Cui Shijiu promised to give Xu Nanying all the remaining jewelry from the Cui family as a reward. Tempted by the offer, Xu Nanying agreed to help. That evening, Cui Shijiu presented Zhenlang Pavilion’s property deed to Cui Shijiu. Overjoyed, she was thrilled to reclaim the pavilion, which had originally belonged to her family before her father sold it to Yan Zijing. However, her excitement was short-lived.

Cui Shijiu quickly realized that the ease with which the property was returned seemed suspiciously deliberate. Yan Zijing had seemingly vanished—neither alive nor dead. Zheng Zhiheng reassured her, insisting there was no need to overthink, as no one in Hangzhou could challenge the Zheng family’s dominance now. Bai Niao, always seeking a stronger backer, turned to Xu Nanying. Ruthless and cunning, Xu Nanying soon developed an ambiguous relationship with her, further entangling her ambitions.
