Yue Yunxiu and Ying Tao anxiously waited at the entrance of Mingjing Terrace. Cui Shijiu, having gathered her composure, stepped outside and noticed the weather had changed dramatically. Seeing Yue Yunxiu distraught and at a loss, Cui Shijiu immediately approached her, urging her to find Zheng Shiyuan. Though Zheng Shiyuan appeared to be a mere business guild leader, he was, in truth, ruthless and had been colluding with the notorious Li Long bandits for years.

Zhang Jinran went straight to Zheng Shiyuan’s residence, demanding to know Duan Wu’s whereabouts. Zheng Shiyuan remained tight-lipped. Furious, Zhang Jinran tried to take him away, but just then, the prince’s men arrived, blocking his path. They reminded Zhang Jinran to remain calm, pointing out that the authorities were preparing to hold a jewelry conference in Hangzhou, for which Zheng Shiyuan’s involvement was essential. Reluctantly, Zhang Jinran had no choice but to let him go.

Yan Zijing, however, refused to give up. Right after Zheng Shiyuan was released, Yan Zijing abducted him, subjecting him to severe torture until he finally revealed Duan Wu’s location. Meanwhile, Zhang Jinran gathered all of Zheng Shiyuan’s household staff in the courtyard and interrogated them one by one. Those who were uncooperative were punished until one servant, unable to endure further, confessed the location where Duan Wu had been buried alive.

Late at night, two groups of people raced to the site where Duan Wu was buried. With no tools available, they used their bare hands to dig the soil. Together, Yan Zijing, Zhang Jinran, and the others managed to unearth the coffin and lift its lid. Inside, Duan Wu lay motionless. Enraged, Yan Zijing lost all restraint. He had once felt pity for Zheng Zhiheng’s tragic death, but now that his woman had been buried alive, all mercy vanished.

That very night, he set out to confront Zheng Shiyuan, but Zheng Shiyuan was already taken by Li Long bandit leader Li Kui. Unbeknownst to others, Yuchi Wuyi had delivered Zheng Shiyuan to the prince. Over the years, Zheng Shiyuan had helped the prince launder his privately hoarded treasures. Duan Wu’s ordeal also pushed Zhang Jinran to his limits. The next day, Zhang Jinran issued a public notice announcing that Xu Nanying would soon be executed.

Hearing the news, Xu Nanying was devastated. Once a prestigious scholar admired at court, he now found himself a condemned prisoner. Xu Nanying held too many of the prince’s secrets. If he were to be killed, the evidence in his possession would quietly be sent to the imperial palace. The prince ordered Yuchi Wuyi to handle the situation. Torn, Yuchi Wuyi knew that Yan Zijing had become uncontrollable in his rage.

Rescuing Xu Nanying from prison would be extremely dangerous, and exposure would mean he could no longer survive. However, the prince’s orders could not be disobeyed. Yuchi Wuyi successfully rescued Xu Nanying but was intercepted by Yan Zijing. Using Xu Nanying as a hostage, Yuchi Wuyi tried to negotiate, but Yan Zijing remained indifferent. The two fought fiercely, and Yan Zijing, familiar with Yuchi Wuyi’s combat style, realized he was Li Kui, the man responsible for annihilating his entire clan.

In desperation, Yan Zijing tore off Yuchi Wuyi’s mask, revealing a face that left him in shock—it was Yuchi Wuyi, the very man who had supported him throughout the years. The realization hit Yan Zijing like a cruel joke. The man he had regarded as an elder brother all this time was actually his mortal enemy. Even the midnight ambush on the caravan that nearly wiped out his group had been orchestrated by Yuchi Wuyi.

Yan Zijing was filled with bitter irony; despite his caution, the most dangerous person had been by his side all along. Yuchi Wuyi claimed he had the antidote to Yan Zijing’s condition. If Yan Zijing agreed to help him find Gulisidan’s long-lost treasure, he promised to hand it over. Yan Zijing, consumed with hatred, called out to Kang Ju to kill Yuchi Wuyi. However, Kang Ju, determined to secure the antidote for Yan Zijing, hesitated, allowing Yuchi Wuyi to escape.

At Mingjing Terrace, the jewelry shops were draped in white mourning banners, a sight that filled Cui Shijiu with grief. She had witnessed Duan Wu’s transformation from a lowly pearl diver to a successful merchant in Hangzhou. The journey had been fraught with hardship. Yet, Cui Shijiu had a more pressing task: she intended to have Zheng Zhiheng posthumously recognized in the family records. With Zheng Zhiheng’s ancestral tablet in hand, she approached the Zheng family, seeking their acknowledgment.
