With Cui Shijiu's persistent efforts, Zheng Zhiheng was finally included in the Zheng family genealogy. Cui Shijiu carefully placed his ancestral tablet in its rightful spot, setting her mind at ease. Now, she was determined to make Zheng Shiyuan pay for his misdeeds. Tearfully, she pleaded with the second and third Zheng brothers to take charge of the jewelry pavilion. Although they did not openly agree, they both coveted the lucrative business.

Upon hearing that Cui Shijiu planned to relocate Yu Xiaoniang to a secluded life, the two brothers readily consented. When Cui Shijiu arrived at Yu Xiaoniang’s quarters, she found Yu Xiaoniang attempting to hang herself. Luckily, Cui Shijiu arrived in time to stop her. To motivate Yu Xiaoniang to regain her will to live, Cui Shijiu deliberately provoked her, claiming that Zhenlang Pavilion now belonged solely to her and would serve as her dowry if she ever remarried. Outraged, Yu Xiaoniang declared that she would rather die than let Cui Shijiu have her way. Fueled by indignation, she regained her resolve.

Meanwhile, Zheng Shiyuan was hiding in the prince's residence, refusing to step outside. To lure him out, Yan Zijing spread a rumor that he would destroy the Blood Pearl if Zheng Shiyuan didn’t appear. The prince, unwilling to risk any harm to the Blood Pearl, forced Zheng Shiyuan to go to Mingjing Terrace with Yuchi Wuyi. Though Zheng Shiyuan was fully aware of the danger, he had no choice. Upon arriving at Mingjing Terrace, Duan Wu had already set her trap. With substantial evidence of Zheng Shiyuan’s crimes, she exposed his true nature in front of the crowd. As Duan Wu listed Zheng Shiyuan’s oppressive and corrupt actions, murmurs of outrage filled the air. The tipping point came when Duan Wu revealed how Zheng Shiyuan had embezzled guild dues for years. Furious, the merchants were livid, realizing that their hard-earned money had been stolen.

Zheng Shiyuan accused Duan Wu of slandering him and claimed that the accounts she presented were falsified. Cui Shijiu stepped forward to testify. She confirmed that over the past three years, Zheng Shiyuan had been misappropriating guild funds, engaging in bribery, and even offering gifts to the prince. Cui Shijiu detailed the dates and incidents with precision. Furthermore, she revealed that the jewelry guild had always maintained two sets of account books, one of which was identical to Duan Wu’s.

Zheng Shiyuan, cornered by the overwhelming evidence and witnesses, had no defense. Zhang Jinran immediately ordered his imprisonment. Duan Wu was deeply grateful to Cui Shijiu, knowing the ledger she held had been provided by Cui. That evening, the two shared a drink, setting aside their past grievances and reconciling. The prince attempted to intervene, fearing that Zheng Shiyuan would reveal their illicit dealings. However, Zhang Jinran, no longer his subordinate, refused to comply.

With an imperial decree supporting him, Zhang Jinran was untouchable. Realizing the prince's underhanded actions, Zhang Jinran severed ties with him, declaring an end to their brotherhood. Late into the night, Zhang Jinran interrogated Zheng Shiyuan, but the latter refused to confess. To break the deadlock, Zhang Jinran devised a ploy. He released Zheng Shiyuan from prison and spread a rumor that Zheng Shiyuan had already confessed.

When Cui Shijiu heard that Zheng Shiyuan had been freed, she was stunned and prepared to recapture him immediately. However, she quickly realized this might be part of Zhang Jinran's strategy to catch Zheng Shiyuan off guard. Relieved, she instructed her men to infiltrate the Zheng family residence and monitor their every move. As Cui Shijiu briefed her subordinates, Yu Xiaoniang overheard the plans.
