Huang Zhenhua went to Anhui to find Su Gengsheng. After dealing with family troubles, Su Gengsheng got herself drunk. In her drunken state, she had an intimate encounter with Huang Zhenhua. When Su Gengsheng woke up, she felt very embarrassed and returned to Beijing alone. From that day on, Su Gengsheng never contacted Huang Zhenhua again. Huang Zhenhua couldn't stop thinking about Su Gengsheng.

For several days, there was no news from Su Gengsheng, as if she had disappeared without a trace. Huang Zhenhua sent messages wanting to start a relationship with Su Gengsheng, but she still did not respond. Jiang Xueqiong had worked with Su Gengsheng for many years, and they shared everything with each other. Su Gengsheng did not mention the reason for her trip home, but Jiang Xueqiong guessed she was facing difficulties and agreed to give her a raise.

He was very caring towards her, but Huang Yimei suddenly became cold and distant, looking for a place to move out as soon as possible. Fang Xiewen learned the truth from Huang Yimei's classmates and tried to explain to her, but she wouldn't listen. Wu Yuejiang came to Shanghai to see Huang Yimei. Fang Xiewen proactively helped her with her luggage, but Huang Yimei shut him out.

Wu Yuejiang noticed Huang Yimei's cold attitude towards Fang Xiewen and curiously inquired about the reason. Huang Yimei made up an excuse to cover it up. After Huang Yimei went to school, Wu Yuejiang went grocery shopping, and Fang Xiewen accompanied her to the market, acting as her Shanghai dialect translator. He also asked Wu Yuejiang to help explain the misunderstanding to Huang Yimei, and she readily agreed, inviting Fang Xiewen to dinner.

Fang Xiewen happily accepted and helped Wu Yuejiang with the meal. During dinner, Huang Yimei ate in silence. Wu Yuejiang explained that Hu Lin was not Fang Xiewen's girlfriend, and Fang Xiewen promised not to let Hu Lin bother Huang Yimei again. He also briefly talked about his family's situation. Fang Xiewen's father passed away when he was very young, and he and his mother depended on each other, living a difficult life.

Fang Xiewen won a full scholarship with excellent grades and earned his living expenses through work-study programs. He felt he couldn't provide a better life for a girlfriend and didn't think he was qualified to date. Huang Yimei was slightly relieved but had completely given up on dating, agreeing to be friends with Fang Xiewen. Wu Yuejiang advised Huang Yimei not to be too hard on herself.

Huang Yimei felt very lonely and often vented her frustrations in emails to Su Gengsheng. Su Gengsheng, sharing similar feelings, empathized with her. Half a month passed, and Huang Zhenhua still couldn't let go of Su Gengsheng. He mustered the courage to confess to her, dressing in a sharp suit and bringing flowers to her company. Su Gengsheng rejected Huang Zhenhua's confession in person.

Jiang Xueqiong thought Su Gengsheng was too rational and urged her to have a passionate love affair. Su Gengsheng agreed that Jiang Xueqiong made sense but had been alone for so long that she was used to it. She wrote an email back to Huang Yimei, sharing her inner turmoil and confusion. Early one morning, Fang Xiewen waited downstairs to go to school with Huang Yimei, who shared some of her breakfast with him.

Su Gengsheng pondered deeply for a long time and finally arranged to meet with Huang Zhenhua.
