Su Gengsheng was in the blossoming years of her youth when she was unfortunately harmed by her stepfather. Her mother not only failed to stand up for her but also beat and scolded her. Completely disappointed with this perverse family, Su Gengsheng worked hard to get into college and left her hometown. Her mother, however, continued to haunt her, frequently asking for money. Su Gengsheng shut herself off emotionally until she met Huang Zhenhua.

His humor, charm, and understanding nature made her heart flutter. After careful consideration, Su Gengsheng arranged to meet Huang Zhenhua. He was overjoyed and dressed in a sharp suit for the date. Su Gengsheng wanted to try dating Huang Zhenhua and set three ground rules: if they felt incompatible at any time, they could break up without any hard feelings. Huang Zhenhua agreed to all her terms and confessed his feelings again, and they officially started dating.

Huang Yimei was overjoyed to learn about Huang Zhenhua and Su Gengsheng's relationship. Fang Xiewen and Huang Yimei continued to support each other, and their relationship grew increasingly harmonious. Soon, it was time for the Spring Festival. Fang Xiewen stayed in Shanghai for the holiday, while Huang Yimei went back to Beijing to spend it with her parents. Wu Yuejiang and Huang Jianzhi prepared a large feast, and the whole family enjoyed the New Year's Eve dinner together.

Huang Yimei called Zhuang Taiwen to wish him a happy New Year. Zhuang Guodong stayed in Paris for the holiday, and Zhuang Taiwen spent New Year's Eve alone. He advised Huang Yimei to reconcile with Zhuang Guodong, but she couldn't express the pain in her heart. She looked out at the brightly lit homes and fireworks, feeling her old grievances resurface. She wanted to delete all of Zhuang Guodong's contact information but couldn't bring herself to do it.

After the Spring Festival, Huang Yimei returned to Shanghai early. She went straight to the beer house and brought Fang Xiewen some ribs her mother had made. As the beer house was about to close, a young couple came in to eat. The husband, drunk, started yelling at his wife. Huang Yimei couldn't stand it and confronted the man. He got angry and demanded an apology from Huang Yimei, which she refused to give.

The man rushed at her, but Fang Xiewen punched him, and they started fighting. Fang Xiewen injured the man and got hurt himself. Huang Yimei accompanied him to the hospital for bandaging. The police understood the situation after reviewing the beer house's surveillance footage. Despite this, the woman wanted to press charges against Fang Xiewen, waiting for their demands. As a result, both Huang Yimei and Fang Xiewen were fired.

They went home together, and she carefully took care of him, bringing out an electric blanket and heater to keep him warm. Fang Xiewen felt warmth in his heart. The winter in Shanghai was cold, and the old house had no heating. He invited Huang Yimei to join him on the bed to keep warm. Huang Yimei noticed a photo of herself on the wall.

It was taken when Su Gengsheng took her to an old house to see an art exhibition. She had turned on a jukebox beside the painting. The artist had placed it there specifically, and Huang Yimei turned out to be the kindred spirit who understood him. The exhibition organizer took a photo of her and sent it to the artist.

Fang Xiewen had seen Huang Yimei at the New Year's event and fell in love at first sight, always keeping an eye on her. He later went to the old house to see the exhibition and asked the organizer for the photo. Fang Xiewen returned the photo to Huang Yimei, but she told him to keep it as a memento. She thanked him for helping her, and although they both lost their jobs, Fang Xiewen had no regrets.

He took the opportunity to express his feelings for her and leaned in to kiss her, but their cat, Diudiu, suddenly interrupted, making them both feel embarrassed. Fang Xiewen was about to graduate and had received a job offer from an internet company in Shenzhen, but he wanted to stay in Shanghai until Huang Yimei finished her graduate studies. Huang Yimei was moved by this.

Su Gengsheng and Huang Yimei had a video call, sharing their happiness in love and wishing each other well. Huang Zhenhua had a friend investigate Fang Xiewen's background. Despite his modest family background, Fang Xiewen was hardworking. Su Gengsheng was displeased with Huang Zhenhua's actions, but he was worried that Huang Yimei might meet the wrong person. Jiang Xueqiong came to Shanghai on a business trip and made a point to visit Huang Yimei, noticing she had changed.

Huang Yimei dressed plainly and wore no makeup. Jiang Xueqiong asked her to accompany her to a charity gala. Huang Yimei hadn't attended such an event in a long time and hurried home to change into a formal dress. Fang Xiewen wanted to invite her to dinner but walked in to find her trying on the dress.
