> The Tale of Rose Recap
Wu Yuejiang and Huang Jianzhi came to Shanghai to visit Huang Yimei. As soon as Huang Yimei saw them, she burst into tears, feeling aggrieved. They noticed her haggard appearance, knowing she had suffered a lot. They wanted to stay and take care of Huang Yimei, letting Fang Xiewen’s mother return to her hometown for a break. Fang Xiewen’s mother was very angry, misinterpreting their intentions as trying to take over the newly bought big house, and she complained to Fang Xiewen, who persuaded her not to overthink.
Wu Yuejiang and Huang Jianzhi brought Huang Yimei’s favorite ingredients from Beijing and personally cooked a large meal. Huang Yimei enjoyed the meal and showed a long-lost smile. She had never smiled so happily in front of Fang Xiewen’s mother, which made the latter very resentful. Huang Jianzhi casually asked about the company’s operations, and Fang Xiewen mentioned his plan to rent a larger office in Xuhui District. Huang Jianzhi cautioned him against blindly expanding, but Fang Xiewen felt looked down upon and was very upset.
After dinner, Wu Yuejiang and Huang Jianzhi returned to their hotel to rest. Along the way, Huang Jianzhi sighed constantly. Huang Yimei, who grew up loved by them and Huang Zhenhua, had always lived a carefree life. But ever since she married Fang Xiewen, she seemed burdened with worries. Huang Jianzhi feared Huang Yimei was unhappy and wanted to take her back to Beijing. Wu Yuejiang suggested observing for a few more days.
Fang Xiewen's inferiority complex clouded his judgment again. He believed that Wu Yuejiang and Huang Jianzhi didn’t trust him and came to Shanghai to inspect him unexpectedly. They didn’t even put down their luggage, coming straight from the airport to his home to see how he treated Huang Yimei. Huang Yimei explained that her parents missed her too much, but Fang Xiewen didn’t believe it. He suspected Huang Yimei of complaining to her parents and accused her of being disrespectful to his mother, running out every day. However, his mother monitored Huang Yimei’s every move as if she were a prisoner, suffocating her. Fang Xiewen vented all his anger on Huang Yimei, ignoring her explanations and going to sleep in a huff.
Bai Erru entrusted the design of a new homestay hotel to Huang Zhenhua and even wanted to set up a company for him. Huang Zhenhua was reluctant to leave his secure job at the architectural institute but didn’t want to miss such a good opportunity. He discussed it with Su Gengsheng, who knew that Bai Erru was the father of Huang Zhenhua’s ex-girlfriend, Bai Xiaohe. She supported Huang Zhenhua in starting his own business and agreed that he should accept Bai Erru’s investment.
Huang Yimei and Fang Xiewen discussed having her parents stay in Shanghai for a while so that Fang Xiewen’s mother could return to their hometown for a rest. Fang Xiewen firmly disagreed, using the excuse that it would be inconvenient for him and Wu Yuejiang to live together. Huang Yimei suggested going back to Beijing with her parents, but Fang Xiewen refused, suspecting she wanted to see Zhuang Guodong. He insisted that Huang Yimei was now part of the Fang family. Huang Yimei couldn’t bear it any longer. Since Fang Xiewen met Zhuang Guodong, he had become suspicious and competitive, even buying a big house to compete with Zhuang Guodong. Fang Xiewen denied it vehemently, and they had a fierce argument, which Fang Xiewen’s mother heard clearly from outside the door.
Fang Xiewen’s mother advised him to let Huang Yimei go back to Beijing for a while, but he refused. His mother also felt incompatible with Huang Yimei and threatened to return to her hometown. Fang Xiewen promised to give her an extra 5,000 yuan in living expenses daily, and she reluctantly agreed to stay in Shanghai.
Huang Zhenhua planned to go to Guangxi to find Zhou Shihui and bring him back to Beijing to help. Before leaving, he gave Su Gengsheng a treadmill, and she gave him a house key, making him feel honored. He could finally come and go freely from Su Gengsheng’s home. Fang Xiewen sent a message to apologize to Huang Yimei, who was on a bus heading to the hotel. She ignored him, but suddenly felt the baby in her belly kicking. For the first time, Huang Yimei felt the wonder of life and eagerly called Su Gengsheng to share the good news. Su Gengsheng advised her not to stay angry with Fang Xiewen.
Fang Xiewen, feeling troubled, took Xiao Zhou out to drink away his sorrows. Drunk, he complained that despite his hard work for the family, Huang Yimei didn’t understand or respect him. He was doing his best to run the company well, but Lin Hao opposed him, wanting to hire returnees to enhance the company’s image. Xiao Zhou thought the company needed such talent, but Fang Xiewen had a bias against people with overseas backgrounds, stemming from his resentment towards Zhuang Guodong.
Fang Xiewen returned home drunk and repeatedly apologized to Huang Yimei. He feared she wouldn’t return once she went back to Beijing. Fang Xiewen vowed never to quarrel with Huang Yimei again and begged her not to leave. Huang Yimei softened immediately, letting Fang Xiewen listen to the baby’s heartbeat. Fang Xiewen was moved to tears, and the couple reconciled.
Huang Zhenhua went to Guangxi to find Zhou Shihui, who drove to pick him up. Seeing the child’s car seat, Huang Zhenhua realized Zhou Shihui’s child was already over two years old. Huang Zhenhua explained his purpose, and Zhou Shihui was naturally eager to help. Huang Zhenhua reminded him not to think about Huang Yimei anymore, as she was about to have a baby.
On the day of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Huang Yimei went into labor early. Huang Zhenhua and Su Gengsheng rushed to Shanghai to be with her. Huang Yimei was in excruciating pain due to the difficult labor, groaning loudly in the delivery room. Huang Zhenhua was anxious, urging Fang Xiewen to sign the epidural consent form. Fang Xiewen’s mother firmly opposed it, insisting on natural childbirth. Huang Zhenhua shouted at her, cursing that Fang Xiewen should be hit by a car. He wanted to sign the consent form on Fang Xiewen’s behalf. Pressured, Fang Xiewen finally signed it.
Huang Yimei successfully gave birth to a daughter. Huang Zhenhua was overjoyed and incoherent. Huang Yimei, looking at her baby in the swaddling clothes, was overwhelmed with emotion and vowed to protect her well. Fang Xiewen asked a master to choose several names, and Huang Yimei chose Fang Taichu. Fang Xiewen’s mother was displeased that Huang Yimei had given birth to a daughter.
