Meng Yao was unable to gain Nie Mingjue's forgiveness for killing the dungeon master and was subsequently expelled from the Nie Clan. Nie Huaisang was reluctant to part with Meng Yao, but he could only watch as he left despondently. Unable to suppress his doubts, Nie Huaisang approached his brother to ask for clarification, but Nie Mingjue, his face dark, rebuked him for being disrespectful.

Jiang Cheng also stepped forward, expressing concern that since Meng Yao was injured, it would be dangerous for him to leave in such a condition. However, Nie Mingjue spoke firmly, stating that there was no need to discuss the matter any further. Wei Wuxian was worried that Cloud Recesses and Lan Wangji might also be targeted by the Wen Clan. Jiang Cheng then reminded him that the Wen Clan might have also sent people to Lotus Pier in Yunmeng.

Realizing the danger, Wei Wuxian decided to return to Yunmeng with Jiang Cheng at once. When they arrived, they heard from local vendors that many unfamiliar faces had recently appeared in Yunmeng, claiming they were seeking refuge under Jiang Fengmian. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng rushed home and were relieved to find Lotus Pier still peaceful and untouched. Knowing they had left home without permission, the two knelt in the main hall, awaiting punishment from Jiang Fengmian.

When Jiang Fengmian came out, they both admitted their wrongdoing. Sighing, Jiang Fengmian simply asked if they had encountered any danger along the way. Moments later, Jiang Yanli learned that her younger brothers had returned and happily came to welcome them. Jiang Fengmian then instructed everyone to have a meal together. Just as they were about to eat, their mother, Yu Ziyuan, appeared. She carried herself with a commanding presence, far from the demeanor of an ordinary woman.

As everyone gathered around the table, Jiang Fengmian finally spoke, informing them that the Wen Clan had also sent envoys to Yunmeng, demanding that within seven days, each clan send their direct disciples to Qishan for "re-education" under the Wen Clan's supervision. As a result, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian would have to depart for Qishan in the coming days. Yu Ziyuan was infuriated. She slammed her chopsticks down, ridiculing her husband’s passive attitude.

The Wen Clan's letter made it clear that if any clan dared to defy the order and refused to send their direct heirs, they would be branded as enemies of the cultivation world and would face extermination. Sneering coldly, Yu Ziyuan declared that sending their sons to Qishan was no different from offering them as hostages. Her anger then turned toward Wei Wuxian.

Displeased with his presence in Lotus Pier, Yu Ziyuan sarcastically asked Jiang Fengmian if he really intended to send Wei Wuxian to Qishan. Jiang Fengmian gave an ambiguous response, further fueling Yu Ziyuan's fury. She bitterly mocked herself, claiming that she could never compare to Wei Wuxian's mother — not in her husband's heart, and not even in raising her own son, as Jiang Cheng could never measure up to Wei Wuxian.

In her eyes, not only was her son less talented, but now he would be the first to be sent as a hostage. Jiang Cheng tried to comfort his mother, but Yu Ziyuan angrily warned him not to follow Wei Wuxian’s lead and stormed off in frustration. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji was ambushed on his way back to Gusu by Wen Chao and Wen Zhuliu.

They demanded that he hand over the Yin Iron, but Lan Wangji managed to outmaneuver them and escape. Wen Chao, however, was in no hurry to give chase, as his brother Wen Xu had already led an army to Cloud Recesses to destroy the Gusu Lan Clan. Even if Lan Wangji returned, he would only find ruins. Indeed, Cloud Recesses was under siege. Wen Xu’s men set the mountains ablaze, slaughtering anyone in their way.

Lan Qiren, overwhelmed with rage upon hearing the news, coughed up blood. In a critical moment, he instructed Lan Xichen to flee with the ancient texts while the remaining disciples took refuge in the Cold Pond Cave. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, still unaware of the disaster, voiced their concerns to Jiang Fengmian.

However, Jiang Fengmian was already aware of the situation, explaining that the Lan Clan had become a prime target of the Wen Clan due to the Yin Iron. He then informed Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng that they would leave for Qishan in three days. The two agreed without hesitation. At the same time, Wen Xu continued his assault on Cloud Recesses.

Lan Qiren insisted on waiting for all disciples to gather before retreating to the Cold Pond Cave, but this delay gave Wen Xu an opportunity to strike. Just as Wen Xu was about to kill Lan Qiren, Lan Wangji arrived in time to fend off the attack. Lan Qiren quickly led the remaining disciples to the cave, but Wen Xu captured a disciple named Su She.

Out of fear for his life, Su She revealed the method to enter the cave using a forehead ribbon. Lan Wangji, who overheard everything, stepped out of the cave and willingly surrendered himself in exchange for the safety of his fellow disciples. Wen Xu agreed but cruelly ordered his men to break one of Lan Wangji’s legs before taking him to Qishan. The Yin Iron Lan Wangji had been safeguarding also fell to the ground and was taken away.

Meanwhile, in Nightless City, Wen Ruohan was dealing with internal disobedience. Furious at Wen Qing for previously releasing Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, he publicly executed a subordinate as a warning. He then threatened Wen Qing that if she ever defied his orders again, he would turn Wen Ning into a puppet. Soon, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng arrived at Nightless City, only to find Nie Huaisang and Jin Zixuan also present — but there was no sign of Lan Wangji.

Moments later, Wen Chao arrogantly entered the hall and ordered his men to bring Lan Wangji forward. When Lan Wangji finally appeared, he was dressed in white, his expression cold and indifferent, but his presence was noticeably weaker after enduring severe injuries.
