Lan Wangji drifted in and out of consciousness, and while he was asleep, Wei Wuxian took the opportunity to dive into the pool to explore. He discovered that the Xuanwu of Slaughter was highly intelligent and would notice any disturbance after the time of one incense stick. Unfortunately, he still couldn't find the exit Jiang Cheng had mentioned and feared it might have been blocked by the beast.

It seemed that he and Lan Wangji were destined to have another fierce battle with the Xuanwu. Lan Wangji recalled what Lan Yi had once said — centuries ago, Xue Zhonghai had tamed an ancient beast, the Xuanwu of Slaughter, to cause mass destruction. Now it was clear that the creature in the pool was that very beast left behind by Xue Zhonghai. However, Wei Wuxian showed no fear, instead feeling a surge of excitement.

If he could slay an ancient beast, it would surely make a name for him in the world of cultivators. Determined to kill the Xuanwu, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji carefully crafted numerous arrows and devised a plan. Wei Wuxian would sneak into the Xuanwu's massive shell, locate its weak spot, and force it to emerge from its shell. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji would use his String Killing technique to engage it in battle.

Enduring the stench, Wei Wuxian entered the Xuanwu's shell and discovered countless human corpses inside. The corpses were twisted and lifeless, with even their spiritual consciousness devoured. It was evident that the Xuanwu not only consumed humans but also ground their souls into nothingness. Amidst the carnage, Wei Wuxian discovered a rusty sword.

The moment he touched it, agonizing wails echoed around him — the sword was saturated with immense resentment, and it was likely what kept the Xuanwu trapped within the pool. Wei Wuxian decisively pulled out the sword, triggering the Xuanwu's fury. The beast lunged toward him, and after several grueling rounds of combat, Wei Wuxian drove the sword into the Xuanwu's jaw, forcing it out of its shell. Lan Wangji seized the opportunity and launched a fierce attack.

Yet, Wei Wuxian refused to let go of the sword, even as a sinister black aura surged from it, causing him to feel intense discomfort. Moments later, a wicked smile flickered across his face. Raising his hand, Wei Wuxian commanded the countless scattered swords on the shore to rise in unison and pierce into the Xuanwu's neck. With Lan Wangji's final strike, the ancient beast was finally slain. Exhausted, Wei Wuxian collapsed into the water and lost consciousness.

Lan Wangji rushed to pull him ashore. When Wei Wuxian woke up, he claimed that the overwhelming screams of tormented souls had caused him to faint. Noticing that Wei Wuxian had developed a high fever, Lan Wangji immediately channeled his spiritual energy to stabilize him. In his fevered haze, Wei Wuxian groggily asked Lan Wangji to sing him a song. To his astonishment, Lan Wangji, usually aloof and reserved, actually obliged and softly hummed a tune.

Wei Wuxian found the melody so beautiful that he drifted back into unconsciousness with a faint smile. When Wei Wuxian finally woke up, he found himself lying on the grass outside the cave. Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan were present, but Lan Wangji had already left for Gusu. It turned out that Wei Wuxian had been unconscious for seven days and seven nights. Without a sword, Jiang Cheng couldn't fly back to Yunmeng to seek help.

Fortunately, Jin Zixuan persuaded Jin Guangshan to rally various clans to rescue Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. Deeply moved, Wei Wuxian expressed his gratitude to Jin Zixuan, acknowledging his sense of responsibility. However, no one noticed that Wei Wuxian had quietly taken the cursed sword from the Xuanwu’s body, now enshrouded in thick resentment. Meanwhile, Wen Chao was ordered to search for Xue Yang and the final piece of Yin Iron.

Upon hearing that Jin Zixuan had led a group into Muxi Mountain, Wen Chao suspected that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were still alive. He immediately dispatched his subordinates to investigate and sent Wen Zhuliu and Wang Lingjiao to Lotus Pier. Back in Yunmeng, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian finally returned home, but Wei Wuxian's weakened body quickly caused him to collapse again. Jiang Yanli tenderly cared for him until his condition gradually improved.

However, the atmosphere at Lotus Pier was not peaceful. Jiang Fengmian showed excessive concern for Wei Wuxian while treating Jiang Cheng with severe harshness. This gave Madam Yu the perfect opportunity to mock Wei Wuxian. She bitterly insinuated that outsiders believed Jiang Fengmian was still infatuated with Cangse Sanren, which was why he favored Wei Wuxian so much. Some even speculated that Wei Wuxian was actually Jiang Fengmian's biological son.

Jiang Fengmian was livid at these accusations, while Jiang Cheng, feeling overshadowed, also grew displeased. Noticing the tension, Wei Wuxian immediately chased after Jiang Cheng to explain. Only then did Jiang Cheng’s expression soften, and the two made amends.
