Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian sat on the rooftop under the night sky, both feeling a sense of déjà vu. Back in the Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian had once drunkenly hugged a jar of Emperor’s Smile, only to be caught red-handed by Lan Wangji. The memory remained vivid in his mind. Wei Wuxian sighed, lamenting the absence of Emperor’s Smile at this moment.

Lan Wangji’s expression was solemn as he once again warned Wei Wuxian that cultivating unorthodox techniques would corrupt his mind. This time, Wei Wuxian responded seriously, stating that he was not following the same path as Xue Chonghai—his cultivation was of the Ghost Path. Wei Wuxian explained that he had come to understand the Ghost Path during his three months of disappearance. This method relied on music and talismans, using a single bamboo flute to control all things.

Lan Wangji’s eyes revealed concern. The Ghost Path required immense mental control—like retrieving chestnuts from fire; a single misstep could lead to demonic corruption, with unimaginable consequences. Wei Wuxian understood Lan Wangji’s worries and firmly promised that he would never fall into demonic ways. Lan Wangji had nothing more to say—he could only do his best to support Wei Wuxian. Soon, the final stage of the Sunshot Campaign began.

Under Nie Mingjue’s leadership, the allied forces vowed to storm Nightless City and take Wen Ruohan’s head. At that very moment, Wen Ruohan was refining the three pieces of Yin Iron. With them, he had created numerous indestructible puppets. These creatures were impervious to blades and flames, forming an impenetrable wall of defense. No matter how skilled the cultivators from the major clans were, they were no match for these terrifying monsters and were forced to retreat.

The leaders gathered to discuss how to counter Wen Ruohan. Nie Mingjue proposed assassinating him—if Wen Ruohan died, the puppets would lose their commander and be easily defeated. However, assassinating Wen Ruohan was easier said than done, and the plan was quickly dismissed. At that moment, Lan Xichen presented a map of Qishan’s defensive formations, clearly marking the Wen Clan’s strongholds. Spirits lifted, the allies felt victory was within reach.

While checking on the wounded, Wei Wuxian suddenly learned that Jiang Yanli was in trouble. Shocked, he rushed over to find Jiang Yanli in tears, while Jin Zixuan stood nearby, looking impatient. After much explanation, the truth came to light. Jiang Yanli had been preparing meals for the allied forces, and every day, she made three extra bowls of soup for Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng, and Jin Zixuan.

Because she was shy, she asked Jin Zixuan’s maid, Ah Yuan, to deliver the soup. Unfortunately, today, Jiang Yanli had brought the soup herself and ran into Jin Zixuan. He mistakenly assumed she was trying to gain his favor, scolding her and telling her to behave with dignity. Hearing the full story, Wei Wuxian furrowed his brows in anger and struck Jin Zixuan to the ground.

The Jin Clan members tried to intervene, but Wei Wuxian’s flute sent them all reeling. At the critical moment, Lan Wangji arrived in time to stop Wei Wuxian. With Jiang Yanli also stepping in, Wei Wuxian finally stormed away in fury. Elsewhere, Nie Mingjue questioned Lan Xichen about the source of the Qishan formation map. However, Lan Xichen remained tight-lipped.

With the campaign against the Wen Clan still unfinished, he refused to reveal the identity of the person who provided the map. Left with no choice, Nie Mingjue let the matter drop. The second assault on Nightless City began. The allied forces faced relentless puppet attacks, and Nie Mingjue, having infiltrated the stronghold, was now missing.

Though Wei Wuxian and the others sensed that Wen Ruohan was deliberately luring them into Nightless City, they had no other choice but to press forward. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were both curious about the identity of the person who had provided the map, but Lan Xichen insisted that the individual was a friend, not a foe. Even if they had led the cultivators into Nightless City on purpose, there must have been a reason.

What they didn’t know was that, at that very moment, Nie Mingjue had been captured by Wen Ruohan and was being mercilessly tortured. To his shock, Meng Yao appeared in Nightless City—clearly, he had already sided with Wen Ruohan. With nothing left to lose, Nie Mingjue fought desperately, attempting to assassinate Wen Ruohan. However, outnumbered and overpowered, he was ultimately killed.

Wen Ruohan, who knew that Nie Mingjue had slain his eldest son, Wen Xu, glared at Nie Mingjue’s corpse in hatred before exhaling deeply. Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, and the others had fought their way to the outskirts of Nightless City. Just as they cleared a bloody path, countless puppets emerged, advancing menacingly toward them. With no other choice, the cultivators engaged in battle once more.

Seeing everyone struggling in combat, Wei Wuxian finally stepped forward and began playing Chenqing. Under everyone’s shocked gazes, eerie black mist emanated from Wei Wuxian and Chenqing. As the haunting melody spread, dark fog surged across the battlefield, seemingly obeying Wei Wuxian’s every command. The mist seeped into the puppets’ bodies. The once-menacing creatures ceased their attacks on Lan Wangji and the others, instead turning to fight the Wen Clan soldiers viciously.

Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng stepped aside in disbelief, while Wei Wuxian remained entranced in his playing. With the sound of Chenqing, a thousand ghosts bowed—rendering even Wen Ruohan’s Yin Iron powerless.
