Lan Wangji got drunk after just one cup, completely unconscious. Helpless, Wei Wuxian had to support him back to their room. It seemed that Lan Wangji's tolerance for alcohol hadn't changed at all—he still collapsed after just a sip. After settling Lan Wangji down, Wei Wuxian went outside alone to play his flute. In the vast darkness of the night, Wen Ning appeared, bound in chains. His eyes were dull and lifeless, as if he did not recognize Wei Wuxian.

Seeing the chains, Wei Wuxian deduced that someone had used them to restrain Wen Ning, not only physically but also mentally. He searched the back of Wen Ning's head and, sure enough, found two long needles. When he pulled them out, Wen Ning's face contorted in pain before finally regaining his senses. Having been separated for so long, Wen Ning recounted how he had accompanied Wen Qing to Jinlintai that day, only to be imprisoned by Jin Guangshan.

After that, his memory grew increasingly fuzzy until he heard Wei Wuxian’s flute, which allowed him to break free from his restraints. As he spoke, he suddenly dropped to his knees, apologizing profusely. He believed that everything had happened because of him—if he had not killed Jin Zixuan, neither Wei Wuxian nor Wen Qing would have suffered.

Wei Wuxian quickly helped him up, comforting him and even planning to secretly use Lan Wangji’s Bichen Sword to cut the chains and set Wen Ning free. Just as Wei Wuxian turned around, he was shocked to see Lan Wangji standing behind him. He hurriedly tried to explain, only to realize that Lan Wangji was still drunk and hadn't actually heard what he had said.

Wei Wuxian wanted to take Lan Wangji back to the inn, but he took a wrong turn and ended up at a farmhouse. Though intoxicated, Lan Wangji stubbornly walked into the yard, grabbed a chicken, and insisted on giving it to Wei Wuxian. Helpless, Wei Wuxian had no choice but to accept the chicken. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji stood up on his own and scrawled a message on the railing: "Lan Wangji was here.

"Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but laugh and decided to join in on the mischief, writing another line: "Wei Wuxian was here too. " After that, he finally managed to support Lan Wangji back to the inn. The room was eerily silent when they entered. Sensing something was wrong, Wei Wuxian stepped in cautiously and, sure enough, found a masked person lying in wait. The intruder suddenly lunged at him with a sword.

Despite being drunk, Lan Wangji instinctively shielded Wei Wuxian and engaged in battle with the masked assailant. Wei Wuxian was shocked—the masked person seemed extremely familiar with Lan Wangji’s sword techniques. Could he be someone from the Lan clan? Realizing he was at a disadvantage, the masked attacker quickly used a teleportation talisman to escape. After the enemy fled, Lan Wangji remained in a dazed state.

Seeing this as a rare opportunity to hear some honest words from him, Wei Wuxian seized the moment to ask a few questions. When he asked why Lan Wangji had chosen to help him, Lan Wangji lowered his gaze and answered, "Because I have regrets. On the battlefield of Nightless City, I did not stand by your side. " Wei Wuxian was deeply moved by his words.

He solemnly told Lan Wangji that none of it was his fault and that he had no reason to blame himself. Lan Wangji, half-asleep, said nothing more. As the hour of Hai arrived, he followed his usual routine, went to bed, and refused to answer any further questions. The next morning, with the sun high in the sky, Wei Wuxian got up early and saw a group of children playing, pretending to be the clan leaders of the great sects.

Just then, Lan Wangji emerged, looking completely serious as if he had forgotten everything that happened the night before. Wei Wuxian chose not to expose him. Instead, he nervously told Lan Wangji that the masked intruder was likely someone familiar with the Lan clan. They continued on their journey and soon learned that their next destination was Yi City—a place rumored to be cursed, where those who lived there either died young or met tragic ends.

As they spoke, they arrived outside the city gates. The place was shrouded in dense fog, giving it an eerie and desolate atmosphere. As Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji ventured deeper into the mist, they could barely see each other. To their surprise, they encountered Jin Ling, Lan Sizhui, and their group. It turned out that Jin Ling and Sizhui had heard strange noises and seen shadowy figures darting about in the city, preventing them from leaving.

As they conversed, a horde of puppets suddenly swarmed in from outside the city. Fortunately, Lan Wangji acted quickly and destroyed them. Wei Wuxian was startled—these puppets were controlled by the Stygian Tiger Seal. Someone had clearly managed to replicate it. Just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, another masked person suddenly appeared, seemingly trying to snatch Wei Wuxian’s spirit-trapping pouch.

Lan Wangji immediately engaged the attacker while Wei Wuxian led Jin Ling and the others away to a safer location. Along the way, he noticed that some of them had been poisoned by the puppets and carefully guided them to move cautiously. They finally found a shop and went inside, only to discover that the entire place was filled with paper effigies, making for an unsettling sight. The shopkeeper was an elderly woman, frail and haggard. Wei Wuxian noticed the telltale markings of a puppet on her neck and immediately grew wary.
