Song Ran had brought her laptop along, and she and Li Zan watched cartoons together. Li Zan mentioned that he had already seen those cartoons. He had been curious when he saw Song Ran enjoying them so much, so he decided to watch them too. Song Ran suddenly thought of something her mother had said and asked Li Zan if he would ever betray her.

Li Zan made a solemn vow, but Song Ran told him not to say such things. Both Song Ran and Li Zan heard her mother coughing. Song Ran explained that her mother had been sick before and hadn’t recovered completely. Li Zan mentioned that Song Ran's mother looked quite unwell today, but after touching up her makeup, she seemed a bit better. He suggested that they should take her to the hospital to get checked.

They went to the hospital, and Dr. He came over to find Song Ran. He brought up Song Ran's boyfriend. Song Ran explained that Li Zan had gone for a follow-up check at the ENT department. Dr. He said that he had just seen someone who had claimed to be there for a walk, but he overheard them calling out "Ran Ran. " Dr. He wondered if it was the same Song Ran he knew and decided to check.

It turned out, he had overthought it. Song Ran said that Li Zan was like that—he had improved a lot, but he still didn’t want her to accompany him, worried that it would make her anxious. Li Zan returned just then, and Song Ran introduced him to Dr. He. Dr. He mentioned that he had met Song Ran’s mother at the ophthalmology department. He had heard that Song Ran was there, so he stopped by to say hello.

Li Zan thought that since Dr. He had met Song Ran’s mother in the ophthalmology department, which was near the entrance, it was likely that her mother hadn’t had her follow-up checkup. Sure enough, Song Ran’s mother sent a message saying that she had gone to work. Li Zan commented that Song Ran was right—her mother really was strong-willed. While riding her bike, Song Ran collided with a rock and lost vision. She went to the hospital for a check-up. Dr. He said it wasn’t too serious and prescribed some drops. If her condition didn’t improve, she would need surgery. Song Ran asked Dr. He for a favor, but he said she wasn’t cooperating. Song Ran replied that she would only cooperate if her mother went for a check-up first. Dr. He had no choice but to agree.

In reality, Song Ran’s mother had already been examined. There were shadows in her lungs, and she needed further checks. Song Ran’s mother had also made arrangements for her inheritance and felt that the biggest regret of her life was not insisting on keeping Song Ran with her. She now wanted to spend more time with Song Ran and let fate take its course. Li Zan called, but Song Ran’s mother thought it was a telemarketing call and hung up.
