Li Zan called Song Ran and told her that he would need some more time before he could return. The assessment had been postponed, and he still had to stay there for a while longer. She was content with that. Song Ran asked if her mother truly didn’t want to see her father one last time. Her mother replied that she didn’t want to see him.

She hated him, and all her life, she had been strong, only to have her pride trampled by him. When she passed away, she didn’t want him to attend her funeral. Song Ran promised her that. Song Ran’s mother then told her that life shouldn’t be measured by how long it is. There are some things that, even if others don’t support you, if you know they’re right, you must do them.

She spoke about a photo from when Song Ran won an award. Her mother had been in pain and bedridden for several days after that, and when she saw the photo, she realized she hadn’t helped her daughter when she needed it. She deeply regretted not having insisted on keeping Song Ran by her side when she was younger.
