Song Ran's mother was discharged from the hospital. Song Ran suggested they stay at her hometown for a while, saying the smog in this area during winter was too severe and bad for health. However, her mother felt that since they were going back home, she should start working again. She also mentioned that her hometown was damp and cold, making it easier to develop rheumatism.

Song Ran's mother asked if she had argued with Li Zan, and if it was because of Li Zan's trip to Dongguo. Song Ran felt that Li Zan had told her mother, but hadn’t told her. Her mother explained that she had asked Li Zan, and that’s why he shared it with her. Her mother then asked what Song Ran was angry about, saying that when she saw Li Zan last, he was already volunteering in Dongguo.

Song Ran's mother believed that a man can love a woman, but shouldn’t follow her completely. Likewise, a woman shouldn’t be dependent on a man. If they were in sync, they should be together, but if they weren’t, it was better to separate. Song Ran thought that it was indeed her own problem. If she were stronger and not sick, she might have gone to Dongguo by now.

Her mother apologized, telling Song Ran not to put so much pressure on herself. Back in her room, Song Ran regretted breaking up with Li Zan. She called the driver to ask about Li Zan’s situation. Shen Bei accidentally mentioned that Sulong had died, which shocked Song Ran. She told her mother that she wanted to go back to Dongguo, as she seemed to understand why Li Zan had to return.

It was a sense of responsibility—she had already formed bonds with the people there and the land itself, and these connections couldn't be severed so easily. Song Ran’s mother said she wouldn’t stop Song Ran from going back, but she had one condition: Song Ran should wait a month before returning. This would give her time to think things through carefully and not make decisions out of impulse.

A lot had happened before, and Song Ran needed some time to adjust. Song Ran agreed. Li Zan and the team went to clear landmines. Li Zan saw a building nearby and went to check it out. This was where he had first met Song Ran, when he helped her defuse a bomb she had stepped on.

Sa Xin asked Benjamin if he knew anything, as he noticed that Li Zan seemed different this time, wondering if Li Zan had had a fight with Song Ran. Benjamin said Sa Xin didn’t understand. He mentioned he needed to go to the hospital for a check-up on his eyes, and Sa Xin joked that Benjamin's eyes had been fine for two months, unless he had a third eye.

Li Zan also had to go to the hospital and went with Benjamin. Li Zan said that Sa Xin considered Benjamin like a brother, wanting to protect him but also not wanting anyone else to take him away. Benjamin thought to himself, no wonder things were so complicated. Li Zan saw it as a good thing, like gaining another family member. Dr. Pei saw them and worried they had gotten injured.

Benjamin casually explained that he was just accompanying Li Zan, and they had planned to casually bump into Dr. Pei at the small bar. Li Zan went to check on a patient whose physical injuries were nearly healed, but he often got angry. Li Zan gave the patient a portable music player, telling him that he had been through something similar before, and listening to music could make him feel better. The patient calmed down after listening to the music.

Sa Xin came over to find Li Zan, asking him to teach him how to defuse bombs. Someone came to find Sa Xin, saying that a new bomb disposal officer had reported for duty and needed help with accommodation. This person was recommended by Li Zan. Sa Xin asked Li Zan why, saying that the previous bomb disposal officer had sacrificed his life because he lacked experience and ran in the wrong direction during a retreat.

Sa Xin and Li Zan were already familiar with each other and knew the risks weren’t that high, so he didn’t want any newcomers. Li Zan showed Sa Xin his credentials, explaining that he had passed the landmine clearance exam but hadn’t passed the bomb disposal one. X came to see Benjamin, asking if he knew what had happened to Li Zan. Benjamin didn’t know either.
