To thank Xiao Ran for his support at the release conference, Song Lingling decided to treat him to a meal. They went to a small eatery. Despite the modest conditions of the restaurant, Xiao Ran tolerated it. What he couldn’t tolerate, however, was that Song Lingling insisted on ordering octopus, which he had been afraid of since childhood. Xiao Ran called his assistant, Pang Ding, seeking a solution.
Pang Ding suggested that he pretend to be drunk to avoid eating it. Xiao Ran followed the advice. Pang Ding, not reassured, called again to check on him. Xiao Ran pretended to be asleep and didn’t answer, so Song Lingling answered the phone. When Pang Ding learned that Song Lingling was with Xiao Ran, he revealed Xiao Ran’s fear of octopus and asked her to take care of him.
After hanging up, Song Lingling realized that Xiao Ran was pretending to be drunk. She then placed an octopus in front of him, pretending to be full and intentionally asked him to go back. Seeing the octopus in front of him, Xiao Ran screamed and jumped up, startling Song Lingling, who nearly fell but was caught by Xiao Ran in time. Their close contact made both of them feel a spark.
On their way back home, Song Lingling found Xiao Ran’s fear of octopus amusing and pretended to be an octopus to tease him. Back at home, Xiao Ran removed the partition from the bed, and Song Lingling gave him a bracelet she had designed. This bracelet could monitor her sleep state. When Song Lingling fell asleep, the bracelet would automatically connect with Xiao Ran’s bracelet, and would separate once she woke up.
Xiao Ran guessed that Song Lingling's story at the conference was not finished yet, and Song Lingling continued to share her story about her brother, revealing that he died in a car accident while saving her. Seeing Song Lingling’s sadness, Xiao Ran promised himself to protect her as he admired her sleeping face. Lin Jiao checked the surveillance footage and was surprised to find that the person in black was David.
He then confronted David, who admitted that he was indeed responsible for the virus. Just as Xiao Ran was questioning David’s motives, Shen Xiangyu suddenly walked in. Shen Xiangyu complimented Lin Jiao, saying he looked very handsome hosting on stage. After hearing this, Lin Jiao realized that Shen Xiangyu had arranged for the host to collapse to create an opportunity for herself to shine.
However, he still didn’t understand why David had introduced the virus, which caused significant losses to the Shanhai Group. David explained to Lin Jiao that if he solved the virus problem, it would be a great achievement for the Shanhai Group, and the old man would see him in a new light.
Shen Xiangyu, not wanting Lin Jiao to always live in Xiao Ran’s shadow, told him that she didn’t want him to be her brother but wanted to be his girlfriend. Xiao Ran received a call from his friend Nangong Yu, who claimed to know who was behind the scheme.
After they met, Nangong Yu gave Xiao Ran a video and informed him that he had overheard the conversation between the culprits, who repeatedly mentioned the Lan Yao Design Studio and the virus.
