Luo Shu narrowly escaped and returned to the woodshed, eagerly recounting the thrilling events she had just experienced to Qi Menglin. Qi Menglin couldn't figure out who had killed Bai Yue but worried that Qian Dayou would discover Bai Yue's corpse. Luo Shu reassured him that she had cleaned up the bloodstains and that it was an abandoned mine shaft, unlikely to be discovered anytime soon.

Early in the morning, Qian Dayou received the news of Bai Yue's disappearance and was filled with anxiety. Chen Meiqing came to see Qian Dayou, bringing with him a letter of accusation that had been sent to the county office. The secret letter accused Qian Dayou and Bai Mayi of colluding to abduct women. Qian Dayou was terrified. Chen Meiqing pressed him, warning that if Grand Eunuch Zhang’s position fell, Qian Dayou would also be doomed.

Qian Dayou doubted anyone could bring down Grand Eunuch Zhang, but Chen Meiqing insisted that one of Qian Dayou's confidants had betrayed him by kidnapping Zao Hua and providing evidence. Chen Meiqing claimed he had come to offer Qian Dayou a chance to redeem himself. Qian Dayou, trembling, agreed. Chen Meiqing urged Qian Dayou to report Grand Eunuch Zhang. In return, Han Muzhi would recommend him to Liu Yiqing. Otherwise, he would be in an impossible position.

Wang Mao overheard their conversation. Meanwhile, Qian Dayou suspected Bai Yue had betrayed him and gathered three confidants to search for Zao Hua. Wang Mao handed Zao Hua over to Qian Sidaogou, who quickly informed Qian Dayou. Qian Dayou ordered her to be sent to the mine to avoid being discovered by the authorities.

Grand Eunuch Zhang sent his trusted aide, Eunuch Huang, to the mine to instruct Qian Dayou to destroy previous records and get rid of Chen Meiqing and his group—so long as Chen Meiqing wasn’t killed. Qian Dayou was desperate to know Grand Eunuch Zhang's current situation. Upon learning that the emperor hadn’t investigated him and that Grand Eunuch Zhang was safe, Qian Dayou finally felt relieved. Qian Dayou took Eunuch Huang to inspect the mine, where many women were held captive.

He opened the sack Qian Sidaogou had just delivered, only to find Luo Shu inside. Wang Mao had secretly placed Zao Hua in a sack, intending to kill her. Luo Shu and Qi Menglin revealed their identities. Wang Mao admitted he had long known they were undercover agents sent by the authorities, which was why he brought them to the mine. However, he never expected them to collude with Qian Dayou.

Wang Mao confessed to reporting Qian Dayou to the county office, intending for the authorities to arrest him. Misunderstanding Chen Meiqing as an accomplice of Qian Dayou, Wang Mao had tried to kill Chen Meiqing’s fiancée, Zao Hua, out of spite. Luo Shu quickly stopped Wang Mao, explaining their plan in detail.

She revealed that Chen Meiqing had been aware of Zao Hua’s location but refrained from rescuing her immediately to avoid alarming their enemies and instead planned to gather enough evidence to arrest both Qian Dayou and Grand Eunuch Zhang. Luo Shu also guessed that Wang Mao had saved her by killing Bai Yue. Realizing the truth, Wang Mao apologized to Zao Hua, and she urged him to assist Chen Meiqing in capturing Qian Dayou.

Luo Shu sent Zao Hua to inform Han Muzhi, while she disguised herself as Zao Hua to locate the imprisoned women, leaving clues along the way. Despite Qi Menglin’s objections, they had no better plan. Wang Mao delivered Luo Shu to Qian Sidaogou, who locked her in the mine. News of Bai Yue’s corpse being discovered soon reached Qian Dayou, throwing him into panic. Luo Shu pretended to be Chen Meiqing’s fiancée, Zao Hua, but Qian Dayou didn’t believe her.

Upon learning Zao Hua’s supposed identity, Eunuch Huang scolded Qian Dayou harshly, who then rushed to confront Wang Mao. Meanwhile, Zao Hua, with the help of Xiao Doumiao, escaped the mine. Cai Butou found Zao Hua and escorted her to safety. The overseers attempted to silence Luo Shu, but Qi Menglin and Wang Mao arrived in time to save her. They tried to rescue the captive women but were bound together with iron chains.

Left with no other option, they used stones to break the chains. Qian Dayou realized Wang Mao and the couple working in the kitchen had vanished, finally deducing they were undercover agents. Determined to resist the authorities, he ordered his men to capture Chen Meiqing. Returning to the mine, Qian Dayou and Eunuch Huang captured Wang Mao, Luo Shu, and Qi Menglin.

Qi Menglin revealed his true identity as the governor’s son, prompting Eunuch Huang to berate Qian Dayou and urge him to kill them. Qi Menglin persuaded Qian Dayou to release them, warning that Grand Eunuch Zhang was doomed this time. Caught in indecision, Qian Dayou followed Eunuch Huang’s advice to blow up the mine and create the illusion of a mining accident. As Qian Dayou and Eunuch Huang left the mine, they encountered chaos as officers clashed with miners.

Eunuch Huang suggested killing Chen Meiqing as well. Someone attempted to assassinate Chen Meiqing, but Zao Hua shielded him, taking a fatal stab. Chen Meiqing was devastated by her sacrifice. Han Muzhi arrived with reinforcements, capturing Qian Dayou, Eunuch Huang, and the unruly miners. Chen Meiqing cradled the dying Zao Hua. With her final breath, she confessed her feelings to him, leaving Chen Meiqing heartbroken.

Luo Shu instructed Qi Menglin to kick over a miner’s lamp, which ended up near Wang Mao. Enduring immense pain, Wang Mao burned through the ropes, freeing Luo Shu, Qi Menglin, and the captive women. They reached the mine’s entrance just as someone threw explosives inside. Wang Mao threw himself onto the explosives, sacrificing himself to protect the others.
