Qian Dayou led Han Muzhi and the constables to the abandoned mine where Luo Shu and Qi Menglin were held. From a distance, they saw that the mine had been blown up, and Qian Dayou broke out in a cold sweat. He attempted to re-enter the ruins to rescue them, but the entrance was tightly sealed with rocks. Qian Dayou warned Han Muzhi not to move the rocks carelessly, as it might cause a complete collapse.

Enraged, Han Muzhi gave him a harsh scolding. Han Muzhi personally led his team to remove the rocks and also sent people to search for other entrances to the abandoned mine. Soon, someone discovered the entrance through a dried-up well, and Han Muzhi immediately rushed there with his men. Meanwhile, Wang Mao had sacrificed himself to shield Luo Shu and Qi Menglin from the explosion. Fortunately, they survived, though the only exit was blocked.

Luo Shu urged everyone to stay calm and wait for rescue. Han Muzhi and the soldiers descended through the dried-up well and began removing rocks from within, transporting them to the surface. Exhausted, the soldiers struggled to keep going. Lian Shu handed out silver notes to motivate them, and Han Muzhi promised rewards and commendations once the rescue was complete. The soldiers pressed on despite their fatigue. Inside the mine, Luo Shu was weak and drowsy from exhaustion.

Worried that she might lose consciousness entirely, Qi Menglin tried to keep her awake by chatting with her. Luo Shu reminisced about her happy memories with Han Muzhi and realized how deeply she cared for him. When Qi Menglin curiously asked about the man in her heart, she avoided answering and eventually drifted off to sleep. Han Muzhi, determined to save Luo Shu, tirelessly led the efforts to clear the blocked entrance.

Just as morale was faltering, Qi Menglin heard faint knocking sounds and realized someone was attempting to rescue them. He quickly roused Luo Shu and the other women, and together they banged on the walls to signal their location. Han Muzhi heard the echoes and urgently rallied the soldiers to dig harder. Finally, after relentless effort, the entrance was cleared. Overwhelmed with relief, Han Muzhi rushed in and hugged Luo Shu tightly, refusing to let go.

Meanwhile, Lian Shu helped Qi Menglin out of the mine. Seeing Han Muzhi and Luo Shu embracing in tears, Lian Shu realized with heartbreak that Luo Shu’s true feelings were for Han Muzhi. Chen Meiqing stayed by Zao Hua’s body, refusing to leave. With tears in his eyes, he carefully applied light makeup to her, wanting her to look beautiful as she departed.

Han Muzhi urged Chen Meiqing to rest, but Chen, deeply affected by the life-and-death experience, had a newfound clarity. He advised Han Muzhi not to miss his chance with Luo Shu, revealing that Luo Shu had hidden her feelings to avoid hindering Han Muzhi’s future. Luo Shu later visited Wang Mao and his wife Dongmei’s graves with Xiao Doumiao.

Xiao Doumiao recounted Wang Mao’s tragic story: his wife had been captured and taken to the mine by Qian Dayou, and Wang Mao had infiltrated the mine for revenge. To avoid being recognized, he had even scarred his own face with a branding iron. Luo Shu was deeply moved by his sacrifice. Upon learning why Luo Shu had rejected him, Han Muzhi immediately sought her out to confess his feelings.

He declared his intention to annul his engagement to Liu Wan and spend his life with Luo Shu. Han Muzhi presented Luo Shu with his mother’s bracelet as a token of his love. Overcome with emotion, Luo Shu accepted, and the two pledged their lives to each other. That evening, Luo Shu and Han Muzhi shared drinks, and Luo Shu opened her heart to him. She expressed her desire to leave her lowly status behind and travel freely.

Han Muzhi reassured her that he had already submitted the paperwork for her emancipation, which should be approved soon. Their conversation deepened their bond. Elsewhere, Qi Menglin wandered by the river, lost in thought. Lian Shu followed him and tried to comfort him, but Qi was inconsolable. That night, Qi Menglin joined the soldiers for drinks, downing large quantities of alcohol. Drunk and melancholic, he couldn’t stop thinking about the hardships and joys he had shared with Luo Shu.

The next morning, Luo Shu went to find Han Muzhi, only to learn that he was giving a lecture at the county school for new students. She made her way there and saw him speaking confidently to his class. Watching him, Luo Shu felt even greater admiration for Han Muzhi.
