Luo Shu went to Mingke Lane to find Jin Miaocui but was forcibly thrown out by Yu Mama. Jin Miaocui managed to send a message through a porter delivering vegetables to the county yamen, asking him to inform Constable Cai for help. Without hesitation, Constable Cai and Cai Baozi set out and happened to run into Luo Shu. Previously, Luo Shu had instructed Jin Miaocui to seek help from Constable Cai at the yamen if anything happened.

Luo Shu concluded that Jin Miaocui was in danger but, as she was no longer an official constable, it was inconvenient for her to intervene. Moreover, Yu Mama had just kicked her out. Constable Cai suggested that Luo Shu and Cai Baozi return to the yamen to wait for news while he led his men to Mingke Lane to rescue Jin Miaocui.

Constable Cai arrived at Mingke Lane with his team and claimed that he needed to bring Jin Miaocui back to the yamen for questioning. However, Yu Mama insisted on seeing an official document with the county magistrate's seal and refused to hand over Jin Miaocui without it. Left with no choice, Constable Cai returned to seek the necessary document from Han Muzhi. Yu Mama sensed something was off and assigned someone to keep a close watch on Jin Miaocui.

Luo Shu went to Han Muzhi for help, and Constable Cai arrived in a rush to explain the situation. Understanding the urgency, Han Muzhi agreed to issue the document immediately. Chen Meiqing tried to dissuade him from acting recklessly, but Luo Shu suggested sending someone to Mingke Lane to gather information first. At that moment, Qi Menglin arrived and proposed that Lian Shu go to Mingke Lane to investigate. Luo Shu, seeing no better alternative, agreed to Qi Menglin’s plan.

Qi Menglin and Luo Shu escorted Lian Shu to Mingke Lane, repeatedly cautioning him to be careful. Lian Shu quickly discovered that Jin Miaocui was being held in a side courtyard. He also saw a blood-covered man leaving the room. Shortly after, Yu Mama and her staff hurried into Jin Miaocui's quarters, their expressions tense. Lian Shu immediately reported what he had seen to Luo Shu and Qi Menglin.

When Qi Menglin and Luo Shu entered Jin Miaocui’s room, they found it empty. The staff were cleaning up bloodstains on the floor. Luo Shu questioned Yu Mama about Jin Miaocui's whereabouts, but Yu Mama calmly claimed that Jin Miaocui had succumbed to a sudden illness and died.

Luo Shu didn’t believe her, but Yu Mama firmly insisted that if Luo Shu hadn’t encouraged Jin Miaocui to leave Mingke Lane, she wouldn’t have tried to escape and gotten herself beaten to death. Luo Shu suspected that Jin Miaocui's body had been discarded at the mass graveyard. She ran there in one breath, with Qi Menglin close behind. They soon found Jin Miaocui's bruised and battered body.

Overcome with grief, Luo Shu broke down in tears, and Qi Menglin, unsure of how to comfort her, simply stayed silently by her side. Luo Shu refused to eat or drink out of sorrow, but Qi Menglin persuaded her to take care of herself so she could avenge Jin Miaocui. Luo Shu and Jin Miaocui had been sold to Mingke Lane as children and had relied on each other to survive.

Now, separated by life and death, Luo Shu sobbed uncontrollably on Qi Menglin’s shoulder. Han Muzhi came by to bring food for Luo Shu, but upon seeing this scene from a distance, he left quietly. Xu Wuzuo conducted an autopsy on Jin Miaocui and found that she had been humiliated and strangled to death. Luo Shu vowed to uncover the truth, but Qi Menglin urged her to rest while he investigated the culprit.

Luo Shu approached Han Muzhi for help, asking him to investigate Jin Miaocui’s death. He readily agreed. Meanwhile, Qi Menglin discovered that Jin Miaocui’s last client was a boatman named Guo Xing. Constable Cai brought Luo Shu and Qi Menglin to Guo Xing’s house, where they found him burning paper money for Jin Miaocui. Constable Cai immediately apprehended Guo Xing, while Qi Menglin beat him up, accusing him of murder. Guo Xing, terrified, repeatedly pleaded his innocence.

Guo Xing explained that when he arrived at Jin Miaocui’s room, she was already severely beaten and barely alive. In his panic, her blood splattered onto him, and he fled. Luo Shu believed his story and suspected that Yu Mama had ordered someone to kill Jin Miaocui. Luo Shu, Qi Menglin, and Constable Cai returned to Mingke Lane, where Constable Cai arrested Yu Mama. Xu Wuzuo’s analysis of the strangulation marks ruled out Yu Mama as the killer.

In prison, Yu Mama loudly protested her innocence and threatened to report the matter to the magistrate. Qi Menglin harshly scolded her, but during the chaos, Xiao Mian’ao escaped from Mingke Lane through a window and rushed to the yamen to report what had happened. Before she could reach the courthouse, she was stabbed. Xu Wuzuo treated Xiao Mian’ao’s injuries, while Luo Shu stayed by her side.

When Xiao Mian’ao finally woke up, she recounted the events leading to Jin Miaocui’s death. Jin Miaocui had written a letter pleading for help and asked Xiao Mian’ao to deliver it to the yamen, but Yu Mama discovered the letter. Furious, Yu Mama ordered Jin Miaocui to be beaten and locked her in the side courtyard. She then hired a man to silence Jin Miaocui for good.

Xiao Mian’ao admitted she was the only one who knew the truth, and if Yu Mama found out she was still alive, she would be in grave danger. Luo Shu visited Yu Mama in prison and tricked her by claiming that Xiao Mian’ao was dead and that she had no intention of pursuing Jin Miaocui’s death further. Luo Shu even released Yu Mama and personally escorted her back to Mingke Lane, handing her a piece of paper before leaving.

Li, the manager of Mingke Lane, was waiting for Yu Mama. Despite Yu Mama’s reassurances that she hadn’t revealed anything, Li didn’t trust her. Late that night, Qiao Si’er sneaked into Yu Mama’s room and tried to strangle her. Fortunately, Constable Cai, Luo Shu, and Qi Menglin arrived in time to save her. Under pressure, Yu Mama finally confessed everything, including how Li had orchestrated the murder of Fifth Madam.
