Under the Moonlight Episode 29 Recap
> Under the Moonlight Recap
Qin Yi heard about the locust plague in Linfen and predicted that grain prices would soar. Seizing the opportunity, he ordered his men to purchase grain on a large scale. Qiao Si’er, barely escaping death, returned to Taiyuan to confess his failure to Qin Yi. However, Qin Yi didn’t blame him for his incompetence. Knowing Qiao Si’er’s ruthless nature, Qin Yi decided to keep him alive for potential future use.
Qin Yi received a letter from Manager Li, informing him that Qi Menglin and Han Muzhi were encouraging the locals to exchange locusts for grain. This sparked an idea, and Qin Yi quickly went to see Minister Zhao of the Provincial Administration. Meanwhile, Han Muzhi personally oversaw the efforts on the ground. The villagers worked tirelessly to combat the locust plague, with Luo Shu and Qi Menglin also helping in the fields.
Qi Menglin worried about Luo Shu’s health, but she brushed off his concerns. The villagers handed over the locusts they caught and received grain in return. Han Muzhi’s men then burned the collected locusts. However, the grain in the granary was running out. To address the crisis, Han Muzhi invited the gentry of Linfen to the county office, asking to borrow grain from them.
The gentry tried to shirk responsibility with various excuses, but Han Muzhi assured them that the grain would be repaid in full within three months. He had also written to Liu Yiqing, requesting relief grain and promising to praise the gentry for their contributions. Moved by his words, the gentry finally agreed to lend their grain. Liu Wan tried to ask Liu Yiqing about the situation in Linfen, but he forbade her from prying.
Frustrated, she left, only to encounter Qin Yi outside. Qin Yi, introduced by Minister Zhao, met with Liu Yiqing. He asked Liu Yiqing to delay distributing the relief grain by a month, so he could sell his hoarded grain at a high price. In return, he promised to share 80% of the profits with Liu Yiqing. Liu Yiqing refused outright. Qin Yi then compromised, asking for just half a month, leaving Liu Yiqing puzzled.
Qin Yi admitted that he had a grudge against the Qi family. Curious, Liu Yiqing listened as Qin Yi explained the backstory, eventually agreeing to help him. Meanwhile, Governor Qi learned of the locust plague in Linfen and decided to inspect the situation personally. Before departing, he instructed Qi Yanjin to keep a close eye on Liu Yiqing and Minister Zhao. Thanks to the joint efforts of the county office and the villagers, the locusts were finally eradicated.
However, the crops had been completely destroyed, leaving the villagers heartbroken. Han Muzhi donated all the remaining grain from the granary. With no other food, Cai Baozi could only make a thin porridge to feed the county constables. Grateful for Qi Menglin’s support, Han Muzhi advised him to stay away from Luo Shu to avoid implicating her. Just then, Luo Shu arrived to see Qi Menglin. She expressed her willingness to stand by him through thick and thin.
Qi Menglin confessed his feelings to Luo Shu, and she happily accepted. Eager to marry him, they set off for Taiyuan immediately. Han Muzhi rushed to the dock but arrived just in time to see Qi Menglin and Luo Shu’s boat sailing away. Watching them gaze lovingly at each other, Han Muzhi gave up on his feelings for Luo Shu and left in tears.
Meanwhile, Qin Yi ordered Qiao Si’er to spread rumors that the Linfen county office still had grain, inciting the gentry to pressure Han Muzhi into buying grain from him at high prices. Qi Menglin and Luo Shu soon arrived in Taiyuan. Luo Shu sent Lian Shu ahead to secure a guesthouse for her. Unsatisfied with the guesthouse’s safety, Qi Menglin wanted Luo Shu to stay at his home, but she refused to trouble him.
When Lian Shu returned to the Qi family, he learned that the eldest young master had passed away. He immediately reported this to Qi Menglin. Qi Menglin hurried home and saw a mourning tent erected in the courtyard. Overcome with grief, he wept bitterly. Qi Yanjin tried to console him and explained the cause of their elder brother’s death.
Their brother, frail and chronically ill, had been enraged by rumors of his impotence and an affair between his wife and a gardener. His anger worsened his condition, leading to his untimely death. Suspecting that someone had intentionally spread the rumors to provoke his brother, Qi Menglin repeatedly confirmed with Qi Yanjin that the Qi family had no involvement in the deaths of Luo Shu’s parents. He concluded that Qin Yi was behind it all.
Qi Yanjin also found Qin Yi suspicious but lacked concrete evidence. They decided to wait for their father’s return to address the matter. Meanwhile, Qin Yi sent Luo Shu her favorite pastries and insisted that the Qi family was responsible for her parents’ deaths. Luo Shu didn’t believe him, suspecting that Qin Yi was the true culprit.
Qin Yi denied this, claiming he had seen the Qi family’s servants pouring stone varnish on her family home and throwing in a torch, burning her parents alive. Qin Yi, supposedly unable to bear the sight, rescued Luo Shu. She refused to believe his story. Qin Yi urged Luo Shu to give up on Qi Menglin, claiming that he was the one who truly loved her. Luo Shu accused Qin Yi of killing Fifth Madam and Jin Miaocui.
Qin Yi admitted to these acts, stating that everything he had done was for her. Refusing to listen further, Luo Shu drew her blade against him.
