Under the Moonlight Episode 31 Recap
> Under the Moonlight Recap
Luo Shu saw Qi Menglin in such a miserable state, half-dead, and she felt both heartbroken and furious. She scolded Qi Menglin harshly, accusing him of being spineless and irresponsible. She berated him for using hunger strikes as a threat and declared that she would never marry someone so weak. After saying this, Luo Shu stormed off without looking back.
Han Muzhi, accompanied by Cai Baozi, went to see Qin Yi and begged him to sell some grain at a high price. Qin Yi insisted on a cash-on-the-spot transaction. Since Han Muzhi didn’t have enough money, he brought up Liu Yiqing to pressure him, but Qin Yi dismissed it outright. Instead, Qin Yi demanded that Luo Shu come to him personally. Han Muzhi realized Qin Yi was deliberately making things difficult, so he left in disappointment.
At his wit’s end, Han Muzhi decided to confront Liu Yiqing for the relief grain. Meanwhile, Luo Shu grew increasingly suspicious. Qin Yi was hoarding grain to inflate prices, and Liu Yiqing’s deliberate refusal to release the relief grain seemed too coincidental. Luo Shu believed there was a deeper conspiracy. Qi Menglin, awakened by Luo Shu’s scolding, ended his hunger strike.
He sent Lian Shu to check on Luo Shu and learned that she was helping Han Muzhi search for grain. Qi Menglin swore to uncover the truth about Luo Shu’s parents’ deaths and pleaded with his grandmother to persuade his father to let him investigate. Han Muzhi reluctantly went to Liu Yiqing, who avoided him. Just as he was about to leave, Liu Wan’s maid invited him to a banquet prepared by Liu Wan.
Han Muzhi suspected that Liu Yiqing’s refusal to distribute the grain was linked to his intent to annul the engagement with Liu Wan. Apologizing profusely, Han Muzhi begged Liu Wan to speak on his behalf to Liu Yiqing. Liu Wan, feeling deeply wronged, acknowledged that Han Muzhi didn’t love her, but she assured him that she would never let her hurt feelings affect the common people. She agreed to speak with her father but walked away without looking back.
That night, Liu Wan confronted Liu Yiqing and urged him to release the relief grain, but Liu Yiqing advised her not to interfere. Overwhelmed with frustration, Han Muzhi turned to drinking to drown his sorrows. He drank heavily, lamenting his helplessness in the streets. Luo Shu witnessed the scene and quickly intervened to comfort him. Han Muzhi confessed his despair, feeling useless despite his passion and self-sacrifice for the people, as nothing seemed to work in his favor.
Luo Shu didn’t know how to console him and could only stay by his side. Cai Baozi arrived and managed to convince Han Muzhi to go back, while Luo Shu silently worried about him. The next morning, Luo Shu reluctantly went to Qin Yi. Overjoyed to see her, Qin Yi couldn’t hide his excitement. Luo Shu pleaded with him to sell grain to Han Muzhi. Qin Yi, however, noticed Luo Shu’s concern for Han Muzhi and became enraged.
Luo Shu tried to reason with him, pointing out that hoarding the grain would render it worthless once the crisis was over. Qin Yi still insisted on cash upfront. Determined, Luo Shu offered her savings to help Han Muzhi, but Qin Yi refused. He demanded Luo Shu kneel and beg him. Without hesitation, Luo Shu knelt and humbled herself. Qin Yi agreed to sell the grain but on one condition—Luo Shu must marry him.
Luo Shu resolutely refused and stood up to leave. Qin Yi gave her three days to decide. If she didn’t agree to marry him, Han Muzhi wouldn’t get a single grain. Qi Menglin’s health gradually improved. Qi Zongdu called Qi Yanjin to bring Qi Menglin to him. Qi Menglin pretended to still be severely injured, and Qi Zongdu believed him, showing concern and softening toward him.
Qi Menglin apologized to his father, who immediately relented, removed the guards outside his courtyard, and allowed him to visit his grandmother. Qin Yi sent his steward to the inn where Luo Shu was staying, spreading rumors that Luo Shu was going to marry him. Both Han Muzhi and Cai Baozi urged Luo Shu to reconsider. However, Luo Shu, determined to secure grain for the people of Linfen, decided to take the risk.
She asked Han Muzhi and Cai Baozi to keep her plan a secret. Meanwhile, Qi Menglin, who had come to see Luo Shu, overheard their conversation outside the door. Qi Menglin returned home to ask his father to lend military grain to Han Muzhi. Qi Zongdu firmly refused, wanting to watch the power struggle unfold between the other factions. He forced Qi Menglin to leave and shut the door on him. Feeling helpless, Qi Menglin fell into despair and stopped eating again.
