Qi Menglin and Luo Shu spent three thousand taels of silver to buy the military grain and immediately transported it to Linfen overnight. Qin Yi arrived at Luosha Port shortly after, learning that Qi Menglin and Luo Shu had already headed to Taoyuan Ferry. Without hesitation, he rushed there, but by the time he arrived, they had already taken the grain. He personally led his men toward Linfen.

The next morning, Qi Menglin and Luo Shu arrived in Linfen to distribute the grain to the people. Han Muzhi got wind of it and sent Cai Butou and his men to the docks to investigate. The people suspected the grain’s origin, so Luo Shu had no choice but to reveal the whole truth about Liu Yiqing and Qin Yi’s plot to switch the military grain. The people trusted them and stood in line to receive the grain.

Qin Yi arrived in Linfen by boat and, seeing Luo Shu and Qi Menglin distributing grain, gritted his teeth in fury. He quickly ordered his men to speed up to the shore. Just in time, Cai Baozi arrived to pull Luo Shu and Qi Menglin back to the county office, while Cai Butou and his men provided cover. By the time Qin Yi reached the shore, they had already slipped away.

Han Muzhi instructed Luo Shu and Qi Menglin to hide in the county office for the time being. Qi Menglin asked Cai Butou to send a letter to Lian Shu in Taiyuan. Qin Yi surrounded the county office, demanding that Han Muzhi hand over Luo Shu and Qi Menglin, all while using Liu Yiqing’s name as a pretext.

Han Muzhi refused to comply, knowing that Qin Yi dared not enter the county office, as doing so would be a grave crime. Qin Yi ordered his men to closely monitor the office. Liu Yiqing soon learned of the situation and made a bold decision: he would take this opportunity to eliminate both Qin Yi and Han Muzhi, thus removing the thorn in his side. With Qin Yi out of the way, Liu Wan would no longer be an obstacle.

Liu Yiqing sent Peng Cheng to deliver a message to Qin Yi, urging him to kill Han Muzhi. Qin Yi, who had long suspected Liu Yiqing’s intentions, knew that once he killed Han Muzhi, Liu Yiqing would eliminate him too. He proposed that Peng Cheng kill Han Muzhi and promised to help him rise in power, allowing them both to stand on equal footing before Liu Yiqing, who would be afraid to act against them.

Peng Cheng hesitated, fearing failure, but Qin Yi reassured him, and Peng Cheng was soon persuaded. Meanwhile, on the banks of the Fen River, people fought over newly arrived high-quality seed grain. Han Muzhi led a team of constables to deal with the situation. At the same time, Qin Yi and his men caused trouble at the county office. Chen Meiqing stalled him outside the gate, while several masked men entered the county office’s back yard.

Cai Baozi and Xu Wuzuo had already prepared a trap, and the intruders were quickly subdued. Xu Wuzuo sent Luo Shu and Qi Menglin out of the office, but suddenly, someone caught up with them. Qi Menglin was injured, and Luo Shu helped him flee. Han Muzhi and Cai Butou arrived at the scene, and both sides fought fiercely. They quickly stepped in to stop the fighting when one person attempted to ambush Han Muzhi.

Cai Butou stepped forward in time to protect him, killing the would-be assassin on the spot. Cai Butou recognized the assassin as someone he had seen in Taiyuan. Qin Yi, seeing the blood outside, deduced that Qi Menglin couldn’t have gone far and ordered a thorough search. Luo Shu and Qi Menglin arrived at the slums, where they did charity work. Due to the loss of blood, Qi Menglin passed out.

Luo Shu took great care of him and went out at dusk to get medicine from a doctor. Qi Menglin, groggy from the blood loss, woke up to find Luo Shu gone and struggled to get up to search for her. Luo Shu had purchased two prescriptions, but on the way back, she was grabbed by the rogue Er Ma Zi, who handed her over to Qin Yi at Mingke Fang.

Qi Menglin, searching for Luo Shu, found out she had been captured. Qin Yi tried to force and threaten Luo Shu, but she refused to submit. Enraged, Qin Yi pinned her down, and as she struggled, Qi Menglin arrived at Mingke Fang. He attempted to break in to save Luo Shu, but the doors and windows were sealed. Qin Yi used Luo Shu as bait to lure Qi Menglin into his trap.

Qi Menglin soon arrived, willing to risk his life if Qin Yi would release Luo Shu. In a fit of rage, Qin Yi injured Qi Menglin and, in front of him, began to harass Luo Shu. Luo Shu warned Qin Yi that even if he killed Qi Menglin, Liu Yiqing would never forgive him, but Qin Yi refused to believe her. Han Muzhi, Liu Yiqing, and the Chief Minister Zhao Daren led people to surround Mingke Fang.

Realizing he was cornered, Qin Yi publicly confessed that everything was being masterminded by Liu Yiqing. Han Muzhi ordered his men to arrest Qin Yi, but Qin Yi threatened to kill Luo Shu. Zhao Daren then ordered the arrest of Qin Yi. Ready for a final confrontation, Qin Yi set the room on fire with stone lacquer, and the flames spread quickly.

Han Muzhi desperately tried to break down the door to save Luo Shu, but Liu Yiqing ordered the door to be sealed. Qi Menglin risked his life to break into the burning room and rescue Luo Shu, but Qin Yi fought him off. In the end, Qin Yi perished in the flames. Qi Menglin and Luo Shu managed to escape, narrowly avoiding death.
