“Who Hit Zhao Lusi?” Former Agent Issues Lawyer’s Letter, Yu Zheng Denies Involvement

On the evening of January 1, actress Zhao Lusi publicly addressed her health issues for the first time. She revealed that as early as 2019, she had experienced symptoms of depression, which later manifested as physical symptoms such as allergies, hearing loss, and dry heaving. She was eventually diagnosed with Dissociative (Conversion) Disorder, formerly known as “hysteria.”

In her post, Zhao Lusi confirmed that she had been physically assaulted after failing a screen test. Following her statement, public discussions shifted from her health to speculations about who had assaulted her. The former CEO of her agency denied involvement, her former agent Xu Yiruo issued a lawyer’s letter refuting the claims, and producer Yu Zheng also responded to the allegations.

In her post on January 1, Zhao Lusi shared her long struggle against mental health issues, reflecting on the traumas she faced while growing up. She mentioned being labeled as a “useless pretty face” and being physically punished during private tutoring sessions. At the time, she believed that being punished for poor performance was justified, as she thought, “You should always look for the reason within yourself.”

Zhao also confirmed her friend’s earlier claim that she was beaten for failing a screen test, saying, “I was beaten again as an adult. Back then, I thought it was indeed my fault for not landing the role, so I didn’t dare to fight back—I just wanted to escape.” Coupled with rumors about a large “breakup fee,” these experiences deeply hurt her.

“Who hit Zhao Lusi?” became the focal point of online discussions after her post. On the evening of January 1, Li Wei, the former CEO of Zhao Lusi’s agency, YinheKuyu Media, responded on his social media. He stated that signing Zhao Lusi in 2016 was the best decision he had ever made in the entertainment industry. Though he left YinheKuyu Media in early 2023, he still considered Zhao as a younger sister. He concluded his post with, “I couldn’t have beaten her in a women’s restroom—it wasn’t me!”

Netizens then directed their suspicions toward Zhao’s former agent, Xu Yiruo. In response, Xu issued a lawyer’s letter denying the accusations, stating that claims of her “beating Zhao Lusi” and demanding an “exorbitant termination fee” were false.

Producer Yu Zheng was also dragged into the controversy due to his earlier criticism of Zhao Lusi for “acting arrogant.” Yu Zheng had given Zhao her first acting role and advised her to step out of her comfort zone. However, after she became famous, he found that she had deleted him from her contacts. Frustrated, Yu Zheng wrote, “Have you become so famous that you can cut ties with everyone? That’s so conceited.”

After Zhao Lusi’s health issues were revealed, Yu Zheng faced online harassment. On January 2, Yu responded, saying he had helped Zhao in her early career, but now he was being unjustly implicated.

Zhao disclosed that her depression began to emerge in 2019 but was dismissed by others, who told her to “stop overthinking” and “everything will be fine if you take it lightly.” She suppressed her struggles and failed to address her mental health properly.

In 2020, she shared on her private NetEase Cloud account that she was “holding on, hoping it would pass,” and described feeling increasingly hopeless, uninterested, and stuck in constant compromise.

By 2021, her physical symptoms worsened. She frequently felt as if insects were crawling on her skin, experienced stabbing pain, and developed allergies. By 2023, her health took a sharp decline with conditions like pneumonia, emphysema, pityriasis rosea, hives, night sweats, and neurological hearing loss, compounded by personal tragedies such as family members passing away or being diagnosed with cancer.

It wasn’t until 2024 that Zhao began experiencing severe physical symptoms such as persistent dry heaving, dizziness, joint pain, and worsening allergic reactions. She initially thought these were side effects of medication. However, her health issues culminated recently, leaving her unable to walk or speak properly. She shared her hospital diagnosis, which confirmed Dissociative (Conversion) Disorder and anxiety disorder.

Doctors explained that Dissociative (Conversion) Disorder is a mental health condition triggered by psychological factors such as life events, internal conflict, emotional turmoil, and self-suggestion. Symptoms can include dissociative amnesia and identity disorders, with no physical cause. This condition is more commonly diagnosed in women.

On social media, Zhao shared that she is currently reading I’m Timid As A Mouse/我胆小如鼠 by Yu Hua. The book’s cover features a quote: “I was one of countless sensitive and timid children. This is our shared autobiography.” Fans hope Zhao can recover soon through professional medical treatment and self-healing.
