Cui Lin locked herself in her room, grinding stones daily because she had promised Liu Chengfeng to craft a set of chess pieces for him. She couldn't help but reminisce about the past when she was being chased. Liu Chengfeng saved her, giving her hope on that desperate night. He accompanied her as she grew up, sacrificing his own identity as a son of the Cui family to let her live freely and pursue her interests. Now, he sacrificed himself for her.

Pei Yuan repeatedly warned Li Ni not to get too close to Cui Lin. However, Li Ni's heart couldn't resist the desire to be near her and check on her. One day, he opened the door to find Cui Lin still grinding stones, her hands now bleeding. He hurriedly stopped her. Cui Lin, frustrated, confessed that she had been deceiving him all along and her true affections lay with Liu Chengfeng.

Li Ni asked Cui Lin if it was because he wronged her and hurt her heart that she said these things. Cui Lin, with a cold laugh, questioned why she should be heartbroken and accused Li Ni of being deceived. She admitted to deceiving him all along and never having any feelings for him. However, Li Ni's feelings for Cui Lin were genuine, regardless of whether her affection for Liu Chengfeng was true or not.

During the night, unable to sleep, Cui Lin vaguely saw a shadow on her bed. Turning around, she saw Li Ni holding a mouse made of leaves, singing a lullaby by the candlelight. Cui Lin ignored him, but Li Ni sighed deeply, revealing that he brought some honey for her. Seeing her still angry, Li Ni approached and placed the little mouse near her pillow, advising her not to go to sleep with anger for the sake of her health.

After leaving the room, Li Ni couldn't bear to look back. Seeing no response from Cui Lin, he thought she accepted his small gift. However, Cui Lin suddenly threw the mouse out and, after a moment, decided it wasn't enough, getting up to pick up the mouse and burn it before throwing it out again. Li Ni's heart seemed to have been thrown out too, carefully picking up the burnt mouse and extinguishing the flames.

After declaring himself emperor in Luoyang, Lord Liang treated himself as the ruler of a nation. He wanted to confer the title of Qinzhou King on Li Ni and appointed him as the Commander-in-Chief to recapture Xichang Jing. This put Li Ni in a difficult position, with no clear choice. After some consideration, Li Ni decided to accept the challenging task, using it as an opportunity to create chaos in Xichang Jing. He spread rumors about Sun Jing's failure in the southern campaign and falsely claimed that Sun Jing intended to poison the wells. The rumors caused an uproar, and Sun Jing was furious, ordering the arrest of those spreading false information.

On a leisurely day by the river, Li Ni received news from Pei Yuan that Cui Yi, despite agreeing to join forces against Xichang Jing, was slow in arriving, potentially missing the opportunity. Li Ni remained unperturbed, understanding Cui Yi's reluctance and expecting him to take action. Indeed, that night, Cui Lin sent Tao Zi to express her desire for fish. Li Ni cleverly cooked fish for her, and the next day, Tao Zi complained about the poor quality of Zhenxi's medicinal herbs, prompting Xie Zhanger to buy better herbs from town for her. Without much thought, Xie Zhanger planned to visit each shop with Tao Zi's prescription. Li Ni glanced at the prescription, seemingly understanding something but chose not to intervene.

For several consecutive days, Li Ni personally picked fresh flowers and placed them outside Cui Lin's door. Each time, he received no response. After a long time, Cui Lin finally opened the door and picked up the flowers. Tao Zi couldn't help but speak up for Li Ni, urging Cui Lin to talk to him. Cui Lin frankly admitted that she knew Cui Li was behind the incident, but she couldn't blame others. However, Li Ni was different. After a while, Xie Zhanger came with a message, stating that Tao Zi had finally convinced Cui Lin, and she agreed to meet Li Ni.
