Seeing Cui Lin still angry, Li Ni followed her attentively. Unfortunately, Gu Wanniang suddenly came to pay her respects. Li Ni was furious and quickly had her dismissed. However, Cui Lin insisted on inviting Gu Wanniang in and even asked her to embroider a screen for her. Gu Wanniang, surprised by Cui Lin's request, reluctantly agreed. As she was about to leave, Li Ni suddenly stopped her. Expecting a pleasant conversation, she was met with Li Ni's cold urgency, instructing her to quickly finish the embroidery.

Carefully, Li Ni brought hot soup, intending to feed it to the still unconscious Cui Lin. However, she remained asleep, so he gently placed the soup down and sat on the edge of the bed. Watching Cui Lin sleeping peacefully, Li Ni couldn't help but smile. He wanted to caress her face, but at that moment, Cui Lin woke up. Seeing Li Ni sitting beside her, she glanced at him and then turned away to continue sleeping.

After the disbandment of the Cui family's army, Cui Yi often sat by the river fishing, contemplating how to strategize for the future. When a young man approached, he asked for advice on military tactics. The young man's answers were knowledgeable, but there was a tinge of sorrow in his tone, as if he were sighing. Pleased with his response, Cui Yi asked for his name. Upon hearing "Li Ni," Cui Yi was momentarily stunned, feeling a sense of familiarity but unable to recall where he had seen him before. Thus, the two sat by the river fishing together, with Cui Yi sharing stories of his past, his deceased wife, regrets, and glorious achievements.

That night, back at home, Li Ni sat at the table for a long time, perhaps grappling with his own regrets and shame. Seeing Cui Lin preparing to sleep, he thought she might generously let him share the bed. To his disappointment, Cui Lin was only concerned about the cold floor and intended to give him a thick blanket. Declining her kindness, Li Ni felt a bit disheartened. Ignoring him, Cui Lin threw the blanket on the floor, covered herself, and went to sleep.

On another note, Cui Lin received news that Liu Chengfeng had contracted a severe cold in prison and was burned on a makeshift funeral pyre. However, suspecting the circumstances, Cui Lin thought it might be a ploy, and indeed, Liu Chengfeng was alive, planning to continue scheming against Li Ni.

One day, Gu Xiang, under the pretext of visiting her daughter, came to the prince's residence. Indirectly, she inquired from Li Ni why he showed no interest in Gu Wanniang, never spending the night in her room. Li Ni tried to dismiss Gu Xiang, but he had no excuse to avoid Gu Wanniang. Therefore, he spread the word that he would dine in Gu Wanniang's room that night. Unexpectedly, Cui Lin sent a message, stating she never intended to dine with Li Ni, and he was free to go wherever he pleased. Despite the headache this caused Li Ni, the message was already out, and he had to visit Gu Wanniang's room personally. Upon entering, he dismissed the maids and honestly told Gu Wanniang that he had no romantic feelings for her and didn't want to hinder her future. Therefore, he wouldn't mistreat her and would let her leave when she found someone she loved.
