He immediately ordered Wang Huzi to investigate who had assisted Qi Tianlei and his wife.

Ji Jingtang learned the news from Qi Tianlei and went to an outskirts inn to bring Luxuan back to the medicine shop. Du Bingyan noticed that Yuan Buqu was troubled and asked if he had a difficult matter on his mind. Yuan Buqu only mentioned that the Emperor had appointed him as the Duke of Dingbei but didn't disclose the matter of the arranged marriage. Du Bingyan realized that Yuan Buqu was troubled and expressed her willingness to accompany him wherever he went. She only wished for their safety and happiness together.

He discovered that Xiao Xi had visited the pharmacy and found that the person there was a young man from Jiangzhou who had previously visited the Qi residence. Wang Huzi relayed this information to Ke Shizhao, who suspected that the blind old woman was currently at the pharmacy. He gave Wang Huzi a vial of poison and instructed him to contaminate it with the poison before the blind old woman arrived at the Qi residence.

Wang Huzi bribed a beggar child to smear the poison on the blind old woman's hand when she left her residence. Ji Jingtang brought Luxuan to the Qi residence, and they were not vigilant against the beggar child. Grandma hosted the nun in the villa and specifically had Xiao Xi serve tea.
