In the Tianji Pavilion of the Directorate of Astronomy, Mu Yao went to see Guo Xiu. She reviewed the complex formation and concluded that without Dowager Zhao's assistance, it would have been impossible to complete. The demon was not destroyed; the resentful spirit in the formation was the vengeful woman, who now resided within the Hall of Flourishing Goodness, intent on completing the powerful "Ziwu" array.

With many burdens on her mind, Mu Yao grew anxious as she planned to avenge her family and eliminate the vengeful spirit. Liu Fuyi’s heart grew heavier as he finally decided to confess the truth to Mu Yao. He admitted that he had originally been ordered to approach her but had developed genuine feelings over time. Liu Fuyi feared Mu Yao would be hurt by the truth, yet the more time he spent with her, the more captivated he became.

He knew that Mu Yao harbored feelings for him, though she firmly denied it, explaining their previous kiss as a moment of impulse. Determined to exterminate the vengeful spirit, Mu Yao told Guo Xiu to keep this information from their companions. Disheartened by her rejection, Liu Fuyi went drinking and found that Mu Sheng had already reserved all the wine at the tavern. Both in a gloomy mood, they nearly got into an argument with the drunken Mu Sheng.

Meanwhile, Ling Miaomiao stayed by the young marquis’s side, and when he woke up, he asked her not to pursue any disputes with Mu Sheng. The young marquis remembered seeing a powerful demon the night before, but Ling Miaomiao reflexively dismissed it as a mistake. The young marquis seemed fine, and Ling Miaomiao considered returning to the inn, her wooden bracelet flashing once again.

Mu Sheng and Liu Fuyi, both lonely wanderers, drank together until their faces turned red, finding an unexpected camaraderie. Ling Miaomiao grew worried when she heard Mu Sheng hadn’t returned all night. She and Mu Yao arrived at the tavern and found the two men passed out. Mu Yao quickly sought help, and though Mu Sheng grasped Ling Miaomiao’s hand, she pulled away. The young marquis rushed in to escort Ling Miaomiao, who initially wanted to stay and care for them but hesitated when she thought of her upcoming wedding. Mu Sheng, heartbroken, forced himself to let her go, reminding her of the preparations awaiting her as a bride-to-be.

On the way back, Ling Miaomiao saw some children playing with bamboo dragonflies and eagerly asked to stop. Princess Duyang, hearing of Liu Fuyi’s intoxicated state, arrived with a large entourage to take him away. Ling Miaomiao ran back to the tavern, but Mu Sheng had already been taken away by Mu Yao; she only wanted to return the bamboo dragonfly he had made for her.

The young marquis sensed that Ling Miaomiao might have feelings for Mu Sheng, but under the bracelet's influence, she instinctively claimed to like the young marquis. Mu Yao walked back to the inn with Mu Sheng under an umbrella, knowing they’d be departing the next day. The siblings understood each other's feelings—Mu Sheng could see that Mu Yao and Liu Fuyi cared for one another.

However, to Mu Yao, her vendetta was a personal matter, and she refused to involve others. She instructed Mu Sheng to go to Lu City and borrow something from their aunt, and then meet her at the waystation, advising him to take care of himself. Mu Yao’s sudden concern made Mu Sheng laugh, not realizing she intended to send him away deliberately. Cui Cui waited at the inn for a long time, but only Mu Yao returned.

Mu Yao said they wouldn’t be coming back, that there was no "us" anymore, and advised Cui Cui to find his grandfather. Shocked, Cui Cui wondered if the "Four Heroes of the Bamboo Forest" had really disbanded. The next day was the wedding, but Ling Miaomiao felt a strange sense of loss. The young marquis suggested she write to inform her father, but after he left, Ling Miaomiao was at a loss for what to write.

Cui Cui visited her, disappointed, accusing her of betrayal, for she had once promised they’d roam the world with swords but was now marrying someone else. Liu Fuyi awoke in the princess’s palace and quickly left, but the princess told him that Mu Yao had entrusted him to her care. Liu Fuyi firmly refused, insisting he needed to return to report to his master.

The princess then said she’d be waiting for him in the Hall of Flourishing Goodness, dressed in wedding attire. Meanwhile, Dowager Zhao was plagued by nightmares, haunted by the sins of her past. The young marquis ultimately chose the wedding outfit Ling Miaomiao preferred, unwilling to force her into something she disliked.

Ling Miaomiao was about to change into her formal attire with the blessing bracelet, but as she was about to remove the wooden bracelet, the royal nanny, Madam Ruyi, arrived. The young marquis understood that Dowager Zhao did not oppose the marriage; otherwise, she wouldn’t have sent Madam Ruyi. Upon learning that Madam Ruyi was close to the young marquis, Ling Miaomiao politely offered her tea, earning the nanny’s approval. However, when Madam Ruyi noticed the wooden bracelet on Ling Miaomiao’s wrist, her expression changed.
