After receiving Lin Yujing's call, Fu Mingxiu hurriedly arrived at the hospital. While comforting Lin Yujing, he went to pay the hospital bill. He asked why Shen Juan hadn't come, and Lin Yujing explained that Shen Juan was about to join the training camp. It was his first time participating in the National Games, and she didn't want him to be distracted by this situation.
The doctor called Lin Yujing and Fu Mingxiu into the office and informed them about Lin Zhi's condition. She had a vascular tumor near her liver that had grown large enough to compress her organs, posing a risk of rupture. While it usually wouldn't cause pain, the tumor needed to be removed promptly. However, due to its close connection with a major artery, the surgery carried significant risks. The doctor advised them to prepare themselves mentally.
After waking up, Lin Zhi asked Lin Yujing to request a discharge, as she wanted to return to Huaicheng. Lin Yujing urgently tried to dissuade her, but Lin Zhi insisted she understood her own health condition. Lin Yujing questioned whether her mother had known about her illness all along and had been hiding it. She didn't want to experience a situation where her mother collapsed in front of her due to her health. Lin Zhi warned Lin Yujing that her relationship with Shen Juan was causing her distress, making it impossible for her to focus on the surgery. Lin Yujing saw Shen Juan off to the training camp in Jiangcheng. Shen Juan apologized for being caught up in training and neglecting her. During the training camp, he would have half an hour each day to use his phone, allowing them to communicate. Lin Yujing reassured him that she would take care of herself. The group arrived at Jiang University's shooting range, where Coach Hu from Jiang University and Coach Lei were friends and had organized the joint training to give both teams a taste of competition. After introductions, a special welcoming ritual was performed by Jiang University's team. They engaged in a competitive shoot-off, with the top-ranked shooter from each team facing off. The winner would then compete against the second-ranked shooter of the opposing team, and so on, until one team's shooters were all defeated. In the end, all three shooters from Pucheng University were defeated by Wang An from Jiang University. Shen Juan had the best performance, scoring thirteen hits. Seeing this result, Coach Hu felt concerned for Coach Lei, worried that it might affect the morale of Pucheng University's shooting team. Coach Lei, however, remained confident, saying that the final results would determine everything. Afterward, Coach Lei encouraged the team members, urging them to turn their shame into motivation and strive to win in future competitions.
After training, Shen Juan had a conversation with Lin Yujing over the phone. She didn't mention her mother's hospitalization and simply urged Shen Juan to focus on training. After a night of consideration, Lin Yujing decided to lie to her mother in order to get her consent for the surgery. She falsely promised to break up with Shen Juan and explained that she would wait until he returned from the National Games training to address the breakup. Lin Zhi seemed skeptical.
Lin Yujing consulted with Fu Mingxiu about her mother's surgery. Knowing her concerns, Fu Mingxiu recalled that a friend's husband was an expert in this field and had successfully performed similar surgeries. Lin Yujing immediately rushed to Meng Weiguo to request his help. Meng Weiguo explained the difficulties of seeking help in society nowadays, but Lin Yujing reminded him that she had only asked him for help twice in her life. The first time was when she asked her father to let her stay in Pucheng, but he refused. Now she was hoping Meng Weiguo could help her for the sake of her mother. After some consideration, Meng Weiguo decided to discuss the matter with Guan Xiangmei, who agreed to use her connections to approach the expert. Soon, they got a result. Meng Weiguo called Lin Yujing to inform her, and for the first time, Lin Yujing said "thank you" to her father.
During the training camp, there were daily ranking matches. The top five shooters were placed in Group A for the morning matches, while the lower-ranked ones were in Group B for the afternoon matches. The positions were rearranged based on the previous day's results. Shen Juan's hard work paid off, as he improved his ranking from tenth to sixth, putting him in a good position to enter Group A. After the training session, Shen Juan spoke to Lin Yujing over the phone and sensed that something was off. He then called Fu Mingxiu and learned about Lin Zhi's hospitalization. Shen Juan immediately requested leave from Coach Lei, promising to return and put extra effort into training to make it into Group A. Coach Lei agreed to the request.
Lin Zhi unexpectedly discovered that Lin Yujing had contacted Meng Weiguo regarding her surgery. She also suspected that Lin Yujing's claim about breaking up with Shen Juan was a lie. Outraged, she kicked Lin Yujing out of the hospital room. In her state of panic, Lin Yujing looked up to see Shen Juan rushing to the hospital.
